This is a popular meadow within the Yosemite Valley that passes by the landmark El Capitan, a 3000 foot granite monolith land formation. The meadow is flat and an ideal spot for picnics in the valley. Interestingly, this is also a popular place to stop to watch daredevil rock climbers scaling El Capitan.

The entire stretch of Northside Drive has space to pull your vehicle over on the left side of the road. Just look for other visitors on picnic seats staring up at El Capitan. Many will have binoculars and for good reason. To the naked eye, there is nothing going on. However, once you start to scan the rock face with a good pair of binoculars, you will spot rock climbers. Look in the crevices, this is where most can be seen. They are but specks of colour that you can make out as climbers when looking carefully.

We very much enjoyed viewing the rock climbers for 15-20 minutes during our recent visit to Yosemite National Park. This is an amazing activity and trying to find those who are willing and able to take on El Capitan give through binoculars is a fun activity for...

Words cannot do justice to the awe-inspiring sight of El Capitan standing tall and majestic in all its glory. As I gazed upon this iconic granite monolith in Yosemite National Park, I was left speechless by its sheer grandeur. The park itself is a treasure trove of natural wonders, offering breathtaking vistas, cascading waterfalls, and lush forests that captivate the senses. Every step I took revealed a new facet of its beauty, leaving me in a state of constant wonder. Yosemite National Park is a testament to the power and magnificence of nature, a sanctuary where one can truly reconnect with the earth's breathtaking landscapes. Exploring this national park is an experience that will forever be etched in my heart, reminding me of the sheer magnificence and splendor of our...

I love coming here and watching the climbers and just pondering what an awesome experience that must be and how perfect it also must be if all you had to do to get away from the world was climb to a place where nobody could reach you. The thought of that always takes me back to being a kid again when I climbed to the top of every tree in the neighborhood and now I find myself looking back wishing I wasn’t to old and unskilled to be up there also. Oh well that’s life and you’ll never get anywhere staring in the rearview crying about the turns...

Excellent View of El Cap and the surrounding cliffs. We stopped here several times on our visit. Spotted a few bears roaming through the trees. There is a nice place to eat lunch shaded by the trees near the river, too. Since we were there in March it was always easy to find parking on the side of the road. Great place to look for climbers as well, if you have a pair of binoculars.
