What a pleasant surprise this trail was! I found it through Alltrails because I wanted something close to home but also a bit on the adventurous side, plus a challenge & beautiful scenery. This trail delivered that! Pro: Waterfalls everywhere! Streams galore! Lot's of climbing involved. Paved stairs for steep incline. It feels like a fairytale. Con: About .3mi in the path was completely gone lol So we got creative and climbed along the wall onto the other side. It wasn't terrible but then again, I've hiked more questionable trails before. I will say, if you bring your pet with you, make sure they're not skittish because I can be intimidating.
Once we got passed all the questionable erosion, the rest of the trail was fine. A few holes in the trail here & there so watch your foot. I would highly advise to to be distracted during this trail as it requires your full attention.
On Alltrails you can search for York trail Leona Heights & it'll show you a map of where to go. The end of this trail led us to breathtaking views of Oakland which made all that trekking even...

Make a sharp left and ride the winding fire road all the way up the side of the Leona service drive. Ride until you reach an unclimbable portion of the trail. Beyond this incline you will reach a large pond and the derelict parking area for Merritt College. Ride the ridge until you see a radio tower and just another 15 yards, on the right hand side, is a steep drop into a single track trail that winds all the way back down the hill side. There are jumps, a crazy trip through a huge graffiti covered tram foundation, wicked drops and scenic outlooks. At the very end is the remaining anchor to the old quarry tram (the one you pass going down). If you are brave enough, you can take your bike on top and ride off the end - be careful, it's a huge drop! This spits you out on Mountain Blvd where you can start...
Read moreIts a small quiet trail somehow tucked away in between homes. From the outside, it doesnt look like much. Big open field and a small creek runnjng through. But as you continue treking inwards and cross the bridge, you'll soon be transported to a beautiful and serene place. With the smell of red woods, California bay leaves, the water from the creek and fertile soil that grows there, its a smell you'll never be able to recreate. Despite you can see a house here and there, you dont mind it. In fact, you'll soon forget about it. I come here to walk my dog after a work day. And everytime i come out despite how tired or in a bad mood, i find peace hiking...
