Moon Gate — Attraction in Oakland

Beautiful trail with a variety of flora. The ground is variable and uneven in some areas, but easy to walk. Trained dogs can walk off-leash for most of the trail. There are several trails in the area where you can stray and miss the starting point. Therefore, I recommend downloading a map on your GPS because the internet is poor in the area. West Ridge Trail is a leash-free area with many dogs, hikers, and cyclists. The terrain is relatively easy, however there are some loose rocks and changes in elevation. The views are good and occasionally smells of fragrant California bay laurel. The big negative is that there is a lot of dog poop and dog poop bags left on the trail.
