I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because this cemetery is really beautiful and I get together with other mothers to walk the grounds regularly.
Unfortunately, yesterday, we were harassed by their staff, of course a male, who was offended with one of the mothers feeding her baby in public. She was even covered up, but his reasoning (yea right!!) was that if someone who lost their baby saw this, how would they feel?? My question to him, then maybe a mother shouldn't take a bench to give a sandwich to a 2 year old or a grandmother, because what if someone came along and had lost one of them??! His response, "she should have some decorum!" Decorum sir!!?! Feeding your hungry child is not behavior in keeping with good taste, etiquette or decency!??!!! It was him who was not having decorum; to harass a protected class, which in California, breastfeeding mothers are a part of! So according to California Civil Code § 43-53. 1997 Section 43.3 of the Civil Code: 43.3. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a mother may breastfeed her child in any location, public or private, except the private home or residence of another, where the mother and the child are otherwise authorized to be present. So without having a designated breastfeeding area, this man telling this mother to move was illegal and him questioning her decency for doing so was insulting!! Mount View Cemetery, maybe your staff needs to be informed about the law, before any future insult of this type leads to legal injury for you! Mothers feeding your hungry babies in public, maybe we should keep the video recorders on our phones on when we do, so that next time we can send a viral message to educate men like this that get jealous over babies having access to the womanly parts...
Read moreI was isolated and alone during the 2020 pandemic, laid off from my job, my flatmate moved out to live with his partner leaving me to carry all the expenses when people were scared and staying put, and then my dog of 15 years died. I noticed there was generous pandemic funding and resources in the East Bay for those vulnerable on paper, the aged, the young, to help them through a tough and uncertain economic time. But regardless of my tries or how hard my circumstances, not for me.
On the day my dog Bear died from leukemia, untreatable at an advanced stage, I was numb and in shock not knowing what to do, and simply wanted to take a quiet walk in the cemetery. I used to live nearby and would walk there with my dog. The attendant at the cemetery was dismissive and uncaring, and turned me away, almost in a laughing way. I believe he was following instructions due to pandemic policies. Still, what harm would it have done for me to take a quiet walk alone in the grounds away from other people and say goodbye to my dog. I didn't even have that small comfort and drove aimlessly not knowing what to do. I understand I'm a nobody and the world is a callous place, but that was especially harsh in my grief and pain and I'll never forget it. My best friend had died and MVC shrugged. Just an ounce of compassion would have made all...
Read moreI'm a photo volunteer. I volunteer my time to photograph the grave sites and headstones for loved ones. These photos are then put on memorial pages online for the families to have forever. Most cemeteries appreciate this service. But, Mountain View Cemetery let greed take over, and they charge us if they have to look up the grave site location. We volunteers are doing this out of the goodness of our hearts, and the list of loved ones waiting for these photos is unbelievably long. And it gets longer each day, because Mountain View won't take the time to just look up the location of someone's grave. I even offered to put in a few hours a week volunteering in their office, so I could at least look up the sites for the volunteers myself. But, they're more interested in taking advantage of people that are actually doing something kind for strangers. They should be ashamed of themselves!!!!! It's not like they will ever run out of customers. People die all of the time. Why be so greedy?!? The Chapel of the Chimes across the street doesn't mind looking up the locations for us, and they even tell us "that's what we're here for!" Mountain View Cemetery is...
