Read moreIt's a grand building with a beautiful Indian chief statue above the cupola. We didn't go inside as we were pressed for time driving from Dallas to Missouri but had I known of its grandeur we would have definitely took a tour of it. There is a special visitors parking but you can drive around and stop temporarily at free assigned spots for better view.
It’s a feature of our vacations to try and visit the state capitol, Oklahoma’s turn this time. The area around the capitol building is vast and it seemed ages before we could find the right place to park. The building itself is also huge, and undergoing an enormous refurbishment. Entrance is through an enclosed tunnel really pointing out how many windows have been fixed. It looks very clean. A really kind lady from the shop took husband and I on a tour of the parts of the building accessible during the refit. We discovered that the building was erected during WW1 but that the dome didn’t come until 2002. We peeked into the Senate room, with its rich mahogany desks for the 48 senators, marvelled at the fantastic murals by Charles Banks Wilson. There are impressive sculptures at the entrance too. Very informative and...

They have a beautiful modern museum, and wonderful little store and even a small food outlet. I appreciated the seating (with phone plugs) while we were waiting for our tour. The tour was fantastic! The guide, Bill, did a wonderful job answering our questions and explaining the unique ways OK handles it's affairs. The art all over was amazing and we walked around after the tour just to look at it. Overall two...
