I had the wonderful opportunity of exploring the Great Plains Black History Museum during a short trip to Omaha. I am so thankful I made time to see it. The gracious owner/curator was knowledgeable and engaging, and he took the time to share insights about the various items and exhibits found within the museum. I appreciated his ability to tie events and details about Omaha to historical events across the United States and even to my lived experiences. This museum is an important fixture in the community, be sure to check it out!

The Great Plains Black History Museum was Nebraska Passport stop number 55 for us in 2024. We were very warmly greeted by the young man minding the museum that day who was very patient with us answering our questions and telling us about the new museum being built. It was cool to see the Heisman Trophy there on loan to the museum by Johnny "The Jet" Rodgers. You should check it out and when you take your selfie with it, be sure to strike your Heisman pose!

If you are ever in the city of Omaha, NE....this place is a must see on your visit. The history and information you have access to is priceless. The executive director provided our group with a personal tour and shared his passion for our history with us. I was very impressed with his vision and knowledge of our history. His brother was recently elected the first black mayor of Omaha in the history of the state. Awesome!!!

I LOVED this museum. It’s intimate, but you’ll never forget the tour, the photographs, the images, the HISTORY held within this space. I was so impressed by the historical knowledge of the director. All my life, I had seen the harrowing image of Will Brown, but had never seen him humanized, until my visit to this museum. I had a chance to see him for the very first time, and hear his story. It’s a visit worth understudying. If you’re in Omaha go and I hope you will donate monthly to the...
