Joe Tess closed its doors forever, but Get N Go Fish on North 24th saves that infamous taste of Omaha. Fish, Jacket Fries and Cole Slaw served with Hot Sauce and Pickles!
From the moment I walked in, I knew something was right. I was greeted by a nice woman behind the counter and a kind fella just sitt'n, chill'n and listen'n to throw back sounds of Miss Patty Labelle and Mr. Michael McDonald singing "On My Own". I asked if they do the Joe Tess fish, jacket fries and slaw and she said "Yeah. Yeah, we do." She then said her prices are better (and in this economy, getting what you want for a fair price is what it's all about!). I ordered that Joe Tess Twin.
One thing my mother taught was to never judge a book by its cover. Get N Go doesn't have a drive thru window or a fancy dining room like Joe Tess did. And it's not a stand out building when you're driving down North 24th. But, none of that was what I was looking for when I wanted Fish, Jacket Fries and Cole Slaw. For me personally, it was like I just drove up to grandma's house. Get N Go Fish was like visiting grandma.
Within 10 minutes, I walked out the door with my fish in hand, climbed into my car and drove away. As the smell filled the interior with "that smell", I knew the world was right again.
Get N Go Fish is the new Joe Tess.
I Salute You, You...
Read moreThis place knows how to fry some fish and fry it good, well seasoned crispy outside warm flaky inside as it should be. Good variety on the menu with the fish options and the sides., The sides are good! The ladies at the front are nice and real as it gets, lol. One thing I really like is they don't charge extra for extras unlike some places. So if I ask for extra pickle or hot sauce or ketchup..no problem.
Only two grips is sometimes they don't have the sides available that they advertise on the menu. One time they ran out of Jacket Fries and it was still a few hours before closing. Another time I had a taste for greens and they just didn't have them that day, because they didn't make them.
The other issue is that phone, trying to order via call in can be a task. It stay busy or the hold time be so long one time I called in and had to call so many times till I got thru then finally got thru then put on hold, it took so long I had gotten in my car crossed the bridge and by the time I got my order placed I was already there.
As far as fish places go, you'll be hard pressed to find better. This will hit the spot for sure! I've had the the catfish (fillets, strips and nuggets) carp, jacket fries, greens, and speghetti so far. I plan on work my way thru the entire menu but I keep getting catfish and carp...
Read moreWell, this is not the best place to eat Southern style fried fish! Let just say it was at a point in time when the ORIGINAL owner was cooking & handling the food & business. Now you get a meal w no Love into the food & the portions for the price are small. I know because I've worked there. Nothing special about it...that is if you like Zatarans pre made fish batter. Because that's all they use to coat your fish & shrimp. & as far as your side like the spaghetti, greens & green beans. All are made on Tuesday & reheated for you Wednesday & they will be reused until gone. So if you ever felt like your sides where stale, spoiled etc. Then that's why. The person who runs the place is now is cheap & cuts corners to make a dollar. The staff is under paid & over worked due to management. The food & business would actually do better if, the owner actually help w the staff & upgraded ALL OF THE OLD RESTAURANT EQUIPMENT & paid the staff what they should be paid in 2025 & on. Not to mention treat your staff better than & learn how to talk to employees professionally.
This business most definitely needs an internal...
