When we checked in we were told we had to wait until one pm (it was 10:50 am) and to pull in to the left. Which we did. Around 11:30 am other campers pulled in... and kept going... so walked back and a different "ranger" told me sure but asked for my husband's (who made the reservation) ID. So back I went to get my husband. Set up and left but noted that the spot (22) we had to move to the next day (which we knew about) was vacant. It remained vacant overnight so around 9 am the following day I went to office and asked if we could switch over early and was told... no. And that "rules are rules" and that "the people who rented the space may come back." "For 2 hours?" I asked. "Rules are rules." The ranger parroted. So we waited until 11 am (remember check in isn't supposed to be until 1 pm). We vacated our then current site 32 at precisely 10:59 am in a deliberately passive aggressive move since we didn't want to be charged a late fee by the SAME ranger I spoke to at 9 am who was doing an 11 am inspection BUT somehow missed the trash left around the new campsite (22) we were moving to (she never once got out to physically sites). Since the sites were end to end, I told this ranger my husband was swinging the trailer around and we were pulling in early if that was okay (11:07 am at this time). She agreed to this. I said I still didn't understand why we couldn't move over at 9 am and when she ONCE AGAIN, said "Rules are rules" I said sarcastically "well thank you for letting us check into the new spot before 1 pm since we were told yesterday we couldn't and had to wait." She seemed surprised and said she was sorry that happened and that she would have let us in if the space was vacate." Flabbergasted, I replied "I don't think you are." (I doubted both her apology and the accuracy of her statement). So now we are missing the first part of our family get-together. Don't stay here if you have to switch sites. Staff shows no compassion or flexibility of any sort. Rant over and based on other comments on the internet/rv groups this is apparently a well...
Read moreWe attended this park for day three or four of the family reunions. We had a covered space rented where we enjoyed a ton of games, food ,family, Fun, and Fellowship. When we first arrived, me and my friend made sure to walk the pier and check out the water. And what I found strange was the water was flat and there was a lack of jet skis or boats people swimming enjoying the water. Later on we would find that these waters are alligator-infested and are not safe to swim or enjoy water fun.As a matter of fact we were told not to go too close to the tall grass or Water's Edge because of alligators. I'm from Seattle, so that is kind of weird to hear people say you can't go into the lake 4 River water because of alligators but I understand that it's more humid and a better environment for alligators and snakes to live in then cold Seattle. It's definitely super humid in Florida, this park was super humid. There were a bunch of families having their family reunions here aside from ours based on all of the t-shirts that we seen throughout the park. All of Florida really was just very humid during the day the breeze is hot oh, you must have air conditioning. So trying to really enjoy yourself and have fun and play games and eat in this weather, is a bit difficult if you're not used to this kind of weather. Sadly, I tend to sweat a lot and so I found myself fanning myself majority of the day with a paper plate or two. This is definitely a beautiful Park. They definitely have areas away from the water for the kids to play. Sadly because of the snakes and alligators I wasn't really comfortable letting my nine-year-old daughter and my twelve-year-old son roam Free to do as they please. Definitely a beautiful Park great experience really enjoyed myself it is really beautiful...
Read moreThis is a small state park that has about 30 RV sites. We’ve been here about 4 times now and only once were we able to get a full hook up. We only come for a weekend so partial hook up is fine with us we just dump as we leave.
The sites are nice and big compared to other campsites we’ve been to and it’s a 5 mile trip to Universal. We have season passes for Universal so we come here when we we want to go there.
Booking a campsite is a bit of a pain but once you get used to it it’s not so bad. You have to go online to their website and book it as a reservation just like you would a party. They even ask questions that do not make sense for an RV campsite but just answer it anyway then you pick your dates and someone will call you to confirm and let you know what’s available and if nothing is available they can check the following weekend etc. and take your CC Payment over the phone.
Keep in mi d since this is a stare park they have events going on. Once there was a 5k run that I swear began at 5am and heard the DJ at 7am but that was only once. Last time we were there they had the Renaissance festival. So it would suggest to check out what events they have going on before you book. I might book next year just to be able to walk over to the renaissance festival.
Plan on extra time when leaving though because the exit lane isn’t wide enough for you to leave if someone is dumping and if there’s 2 or 3 RVs leaving in front of you, you could potentially be sitting there...
