An engineering feat and impressive manmade structure to see in Page Arizona is the Glen Canyon Dam and Carl Hayden Visitor Centre (free entry). Opening hours 8am to 5pm.
Here you can take guided tours of the dam. See website for schedule and reservation details. You can also enjoy a fair number of interesting exhibition displays as well as views of the dam and Lake Powell. There is a gift shop and public restrooms available as well.
We quite enjoyed walking through the exhibition area of the Carl Hayden VC. You can learn about the history of the dam, its construction and creation of Lake Powell as well as the management of water flow of the Colorado River. Additional information is displayed to educate the public on the geology, nature and wildlife in the area. Collectively, there is easily 20-30 minutes worth of interesting learning available.
For those who want nice views of the Glen Canyon Dam, you can pull your vehicle over on the east side of the bridge crossing and see the structure up close and quite well. Open windows from within the Visitor Centre provide more quality views.
Another good view is from the dam view point located a couple miles down Hwy 89 on a Scenic Drive lookout. Just follow signs south of the dam.
Overall, the dam is smaller and less dramatic than what you see at Lake Mead further down the Colorado River at the Nevada/Arizona border. However, it is still an impressive structure and fun place to spend a bit of time for those visiting Page, Arizona and...

I was not even aware of this. While going to Vegas from Page, AZ I crossed this bridge and saw Glen Canyon Visitor center. I stopped by and glad I did. It is a less famous version of Hoover Dam. See, its all about publicity.
The Glen Canyon Dam was built in a similar manner to the more famous Hoover Dam. As such, it's quite similar in appearance. Glen Canyon Dam is upstream of Hoover Dam and impounds water for states in the Upper Colorado River Basin (Western Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico). The dam and the Carl Hayden Visitor Center, located just north of Page, serve both as the beginning and the end for this loop drive. The visitor center provides an excellent introduction to the rich history and prehistory of the area. Inside the visitor center, a small museum having pictures of famous Dam give you knowledge about Dams. This dam is the second highest in the United States. Glen Canyon surrounds Lake Powell, giving it a thousand miles of coastline, and making it a huge boating attraction. There is a lot more to see in this...
Read moreAnother great dam built into a long and deep canyon. Before makings its journey into the Grand Canyon, this dam helps regulate the Colorado River. Neat Dam, even though it was closed due to Covid. You can still park in the parking lot and take in the views from the outside
I have always been fascinated by dams, so when I stumbled across this I was excited. The dam stands over 700 feet tall (215 m) above the Colorado River and Lake Powell. While the actual dam is not accessible, the U.S. 89 bridge serves as a observation deck both looking at the dam and looking down the river. One thing that about the bridge is that there are openings in the fence allowing for pictures without fencing in it. In addition to the dam there is a area dedicated to the history of the development of the Colorado River Storage Project. There is a large visitors center as well, though it was closed indefinitely due to Covid 19. Visiting the dam is free but I would not recommended to anyone with a...
