Bayside Lakes Community: Sports Playground and Shuffleboard — Attraction in Palm Bay

I have only been to the pool area in this community center/sports complex to provide private swim lessons to the residents in this area...so this review is for the pool area only. This pool and deck area is open to the residents (and their guests) of various neighborhoods within the community Bayside Lakes, and a key and identification is required to gain access to the facilities. The pool itself is a nice sized pool with 3 different sections, each having steps with handrails to allow for easy access into and out of the water. There are two sections that my students refer to as the "shallow end" which are approx 3ft 9in closest to the stairs and then slowly taper off and get a little deeper the further out you go. The third section which my students refer to as "the deep end" is 4ft 6in is set up to swim laps without any floating lane markers. There is a nice waterfall in the pool but, it does make it hard for the swimmers to hear people on the deck or other swimmers who are not in close proximity to each other unless they are yelling. As a swim instructor this is a great pool in which to teach swimming lessons because of the sections, shallow depth and slow taper to deeper areas. The lap area/"deep end" is a great size for new swimmers to practice their skills without becoming overwhelmed or tired by the distance but is large enough where they aren't running out of room as they are getting into a rhythm. This area is also great for the students who are working on perfecting strokes and learning new ones. In the lap section/deep end of this pool, on the side of the waterfall, there is a definite current that is both easily seen and felt in the water. This current is from the filter system. The "jets" that circulate the water are really strong...strong enough to move adult swimmers. I believe a cap is missing from one of the valves making it be this strong. Regardless of the why, it was a great opportunity to explain to parents and students the dangers of currents and ocean rips and and teach them how to be safe in water currents. The depth of this pool is perfect for shorter instructors or parents to easily assist the children without having to worry where a drop off might be. It is also great for the students. Unless they are toddlers, most of my students can comfortably touch with their heads above water in the shallow sections and a great depth to start learning underwater skills. The deep end is not too deep where they are scared to be there but deep enough to learn more about the underwater skills and how to swim deeper. The deck area of the pool is also really nice. They have options for full sun, full shade or partial shade by foliage. There are picnic tables located in the full shaded area equipped with ceiling fans above. There are lounge chairs, sitting chairs and small tables that can be moved around on the deck area to suit your sunning needs or to keep an eye on your kids. You can go to this pool area as an observer and not feel like you will get wet as there is plenty of space between the pool and the picnic tables and the fence which encloses the pool area. The bathrooms in this facility are very nice but the key that is needed to gain entrance to the pool is needed to unlock the bathrooms...so keep that handy! I don't know if this is normal or special because of Covid, but there was a "security guard" that monitored the pool area through Labor Day weekend, but I was never sure of his role as he just sat at the picnic table and would occasionally walk the perimeter. Because a key is needed to enter the pool he didn't need to verify residency and all of the times I was there (various times of the day and evening, including weekends) there were only a few other people in the pool so it wasn't for crowd control as far as I could tell. Because I teach all over, I am familiar with many of the HOA pools, this specific pool is definitely in my top 5 for pools that are great...

Nice place; fairly well maintained. Tennis, basketball, and shuffleboard courts are nice. Pool is kept nice. Playground needs a bit of TLC. Only thing preventing a 5 here is the lack of lighting on the courts. I understand that may be on purpose to have them close at dusk, but in the winter when it gets dark at 5:30pm it would be nice to have lights to extend use...
