One of the most beautiful beaches to visit in Pinellas County, FL. We have many fabulous beaches and parks in this area but Honeymoon Island definitely stands out as superior. Currently, the two eating establishments on the island are still closed due to extensive damage from last falls hurricanes but there are two small food trailers in the north end parking lot beside the restroom structure, (outside shower is available to rinse off) and all other facilities and beaches are once again, fully functional. Some of the nicest elevated restrooms with surrounding views you will ever experience are in this park. Playground and shaded nature trail is on the east side of the island. Visitor Center is also on the east side/ Bay side and is small but informative. West side is the Gulf beaches side. The south end is more a traditional beach area where people can lay out in the intense Florida sun or walk along the shoreline that provides excellent views of surrounding areas including to the south, Clearwater Beach. The north end, Gulf side is primarily for more adventurous types where fishing, less crowded suntanning, shell seeking and distance walkers will venture but be aware that no facilities are found in the sections beyond the north parking area. Bringing water and sunscreen is highly recommend and only those used to walking roughly two miles or more in very warm temperature should attempt to reach the point at the north end. The reward for those who make the full trek is terrific views across both the gulf and the bay off the coast of Dunedin, FL. Often, depending on the time of year, manatees or dolphins can be seen swimming in the area. And if it gets a bit too hot you can always take a refreshing and warm in the summer, dip in the ocean. The beach provides ample space to wade or swim without having to deal with deep water too close to shore in most places on the Gulf side. It is likely to be relatively calm and relaxing unless a storm is nearby. Use more caution on the Bay side due to changing shorelines caused from recent hurricanes. Where else can you experience so many facets of Florida Beach life? I would be hard pressed to describe another of similar quality. The approach to this island, across the Dunedin causeway is fantastic as well and offers further opportunities which I shall leave unexplained to provide you with a few additional unexpected options for Florida fun! If you have time, please explore downtown Dunedin as well. It is rather quaint but surprisingly full of nice restaurants and activities, especially on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Events of varying types occur pretty much every weekend. Live music and entertainment is just part of the fun. There is definitely too much to explain so come and enjoy this jewel of a place in the United States as well as what the entire Tampa Bay area has to offer. But be aware, you will never be able to see or experience all that we have available here unless you move to the area! In my opinion, for many people, where else would you want to live anyway? Come see and decide for yourselves! You likely will have some of the best times...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām so impressed with the Honeymoon Island State Park and beach! My two littles and I visited for a beach day while on vacation. We only paid $3 to enter, which was right when the park opened at 8:00 in mid-July.
HIGHLY recommend visiting honeymoon island beach at this time.
After scoping the area out the park late afternoon before, I decided to skip the main beach and went all the way to the back, to North Beach (youāll see signs for each beach entrance). The main beach had huge rocks, less parking available, and more people. The rocks made entering the water very dangerous on parts of the main beach.
At 8am, Honeymoon Islandās North beach was EMPTY! There were only maybe 3 others there at this time. It felt as if the beach was private, which was beautiful. We got to park right in the front.
There is a nice size parking lot at this beach. The lot is pretty close to the water, so you donāt need to worry about a long trek to the shoreline.
The sand is soft and clean. We did experience some seaweed on the shoreline, but it isnāt as sticky, dirty, and smelly as it is on the east coast.
I would recommend water shoes for anyone with sensitive feet. Entering into the water can be a bit rocky/shelly. My boys and I were fine though.
Speaking of shell, we found some beautiful shells in the shore! If you like treasure hunting (for shells), honeymoon island is a must-visit!
Another perk of this beach is how beautiful and clear the water is. We were able to walk all the way to the jetty, without the water passing our knees. Itās shallow for quite a ways out, which is super fun!
We also saw dolphins playing out in the water and interacting with a jetskier!
I definitely would recommend this beach, among others, for kids especially. Aside from the water being shallow and clear (we could see shells at the bottom), itās super calm. We didnāt experience any waves, so even my 3year old could walk through the water without being knocked down.
A few other things to note: alcohol is not permitted in this park/beaches. There is a playground in the park, there is a dog beach as well. There are no lifeguards on duty on north beach. Park closes at sunset.
Tips:
Come early. There was a long line waiting to get in when we left around 11:30-12 noon.
Floats are great for these calm waters!
It would be fun to bring sifters for shell hunting!
They accept cash or card.
Water and beach conditions vary depending on the weather. Mid-summer, on a weekday, in the morning was a beautiful...

Honeymoon Island State Park is hands down one of the most beautiful and peaceful places you can visit in Florida. Whether you're a local looking for a quick escape or a visitor wanting to experience the natural side of the Sunshine State, this island delivers serenity, scenery, and sunshine all in one.
The drive in itself sets the tone ā surrounded by blue water and lush mangroves as you cross the causeway. Once you're inside the park, youāre welcomed by well-maintained facilities, friendly park rangers, and an endless coastline that feels untouched and peaceful.
The beaches here are truly something special. Theyāre more natural and rustic compared to more commercialized Florida beaches ā with seashells scattered everywhere, driftwood, and tall grasses swaying in the breeze. Itās perfect for shell collectors or those who want a quiet spot to read, reflect, or just breathe in the salt air.
One of the best parts is the diversity of activities. There are nature trails where you can spot osprey nests, gopher tortoises, and sometimes even bald eagles. You can rent bikes or bring your own for a scenic ride, or hike through the virgin slash pine forest ā one of the last of its kind in Florida.
Swimming is great here, though the beach can be a little rocky in spots, so water shoes are helpful. There are also designated picnic areas with tables and grills, and clean restrooms and showers.
The Pet Beach is a huge bonus! Itās a rare treat to find a place where dogs can run freely in the waves, and the vibe is super relaxed. Everyone is friendly, and it feels like a little community of beach-loving dog owners.
The ferry to Caladesi Island also departs from here, so you can make a whole day of exploring even more natural beauty just a short boat ride away.
š Final Thoughts: Honeymoon Island is perfect for couples, families, solo travelers, photographers, hikers, and beachcombers alike. It lives up to its romantic name ā but also offers so much more for anyone looking to reconnect with nature. Bring sunscreen, a cooler, and your sense of wonder. This place is a...
