Stanford University is located 37 miles (60 km) from the city of San Francisco near the city of Palo Alto. This beautiful university has an interesting history. In 1885, Leland Stanford, a successful railroad magnate, the eighth governor of California, and a U.S. senator, along with his wife Jane Stanford, first planned to open a museum or library in memory of their only son who passed away in 1884 at the age of 15, but then realized that education is what will bring the greatest benefit to all children and Leland told his wife: "the children of California shall be our children." Leland and Jane decided that a university dedicated to their son would not be like other universities that copied the European tradition. It will be the first true American university that does not belong to any religious denomination, welcomes the co-education of boys and girls and aims to teach students to apply their knowledge in practice. Construction and landscaping cost a whopping $ 16 million at the time ($412 million in terms of the current exchange rate). The main complex of buildings was completed in 1891 and Leland Stanford Junior University, received its first students: 533 boys and 22 girls (now this ratio is approximately 49:51, that is, girls are even slightly more). One of the first students was Herbert Hoover, who would become the 31st president of the United States. He was trained for 4 years in geology, later donated money for the creation of a library and bequeathed a personal archive. The tallest building (tower) in Stanford with a height of 285 feet (87 meters) was named after him.

The university's campus covers an area of 8,180 acres (33.1 km2) and is one of the largest universities in the world. Stanford is fully equipped with its own infrastructure-in total, more than 700 buildings have been built, 80 residential buildings where students and teachers live, a huge stadium with 50,000 seats, swimming pools, a golf course, sports complexes and even a shopping center. The color of the hulls is light yellow, as the material used was sandstone quarried nearby in the valley. The roofs are red – tiled. The general view is similar to a Mexican town with low buildings. The territory is decorated with lawns, palm trees, benches, fountains, flowers that all together create an indescribable atmosphere and a real American style of the university.

Separately, we can say about the beautiful climate in the Palo Alto area, which is ideal for comfortable living all year round. Unlike San Francisco, where the air temperature in late spring can drop to 50 °F (10 °C), and the sky is constantly cloudy and light rain, but after driving just 37 miles (60 km) south to the Palo Alto area, you will be greeted by gorgeous weather without clouds and a warm spring sun warming the air to a temperature of as much as 68 °F (20 °C). The weather in Stanford is quite warm for months, since the university is located in the middle latitudes. The warmest month is July, the average daytime temperature is 76.8 °F (24.9 °C), at night 54 °F (12.2 °C), the coldest month is December, the average daytime temperature is 56 °F (13.4 °C), at night 50 °F (7.1 °C). The number of sunny days also pleases them with an average of 263 days.

If you come to San Francisco, then you should definitely visit the beautiful Stanford University, enjoy its magnificent territory and amazing infrastructure. By the way, there is a cool museum here Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, the entrance is...
