This library keeps getting more and more depressing in the kids section. We would stop by sometime when it’s too hot outside or in winter time and the kids could pick some books and play a bit. There is a huge Lego table and the legos have been gone since Covid . There was a kitchen and just recently it’s not there anymore. Plastic storage bins hold a couple toys for a „camp site”. Since we pay taxes here for the library it’s sad we have to go the next town over to use the library, hey at least we can use our library card there as well. Everytime I come there is never any kids here anyway but I’m assuming that was the goal all along. The selection of book is vast and it is kept clean. There are programs for the kids you can sign up for.

The building is a beautiful architectural masterpiece, both inside and out. While I wish it were more spacious, it’s understandable given that it’s located in a small township. The Director is a pleasant and engaging lady, though she does seem to enjoy lengthy conversations, as evidenced by her 15-minute chat with a stranger. The staff overall is nice, though I found Layla, one of the staff members, to be rather unhelpful and dismissive, almost as if she believed her role was beyond question.

On a more positive note, one of the front staff members, a young lady with a larger body frame, was incredibly kind and helpful. She even assisted me by carefully putting the pages of the American History 2023 magazine back together after they started to fall out. Her assistance truly stood out. The manager was also thoughtful, suggesting I keep the magazine, given its condition, which I greatly appreciated.

There was, however, a concerning moment when patrons were overheard mentioning explosions, and another staff member repeatedly brought up “destruction” during a conversation with the Director. This type of language felt inappropriate and unsettling in such a setting. When I raised my concerns and reminded the Director that their work is funded by taxpayer money, she responded dismissively, asking if there was a problem, despite Layla already being informed of the issue. On a smaller note, Layla also refused to provide a piece of Scotch tape, claiming it required “special tape,” which felt unnecessarily stingy.

Despite these challenges, the American History 2023 publication was a highlight, thanks to the kindness and professionalism of the front staff and manager.

Manger should be a director as it was evident that director gets is so bored as to come out and just talk to visitors it seemed like a romantic conversation too. Highly provacstive as well to attend to a person after Layla mentioned she issued to state is there a problem with strong R while completely coherent English with...

This review is primarily for families with small children.

My kids used to love coming to this library but over the past several months our visits haven’t been as enjoyable. It feels like there is very little tolerance here for kids simply being kids.

I understand the importance of following library rules and make sure to review them with my children before each visit. Still, kids are naturally energetic, noisy at times, and learning library rules. My son is also autistic and needs extra support to understand expectations, so our visits are a part of his learning process.

What has made it difficult is being approached by staff repeatedly about my kids behavior, even though I am supervising them the entire time. These constant reminders create stress and take away from the enjoyment of visiting. We often leave after less than 30 minutes because it doesn’t feel welcoming anymore.

I understand the need to maintain order in the library, but the approach here feels more like zero tolerance for families. If children aren’t allowed to learn and grow in the children’s section, it defeats the purpose of having one.

Because of this, we now prefer going to Palos Heights Library, where the staff in the children’s section are more welcoming and...
