We saw the PAC Band, (Papillion Area Concert Band)..... organized in 1986 by Mr. Ken Moizer .....
This concert was the finale of 'Papillion Days'. The band started 'Papillion Days' off with a concert, they were in the parade, and they ended up on Father's Day with this finale.
They are terrific, worth the trip and the time. There are no auditions for membership. It is open to any musician beyond high school who enjoys playing music. There are a wide assortment of occupations.... they range from registered nurses, attorneys, social workers, retired teachers, retired musicians, claims adjusters, students, engineers, and homemakers. (That is just to name a few. They are diverse and talented).
The Sumtur Amphitheater is very comfortable. The seats are comfortable, the view is good, great acoustics, no obstructions, and the weather was perfect, (if not a little hot... ) The parking is free and easy...
Before the PAC Band performed there were young dancers...putting on performances for us... They were terrific. They are young and talented, they are very entertaining. They dance to everything, they did break dancing, they did tap dancing, they did dancing the I can't identify... But they are good and it was a nice treat...
The concert was well attended. They survive on mostly donations..... and that is very low-key, they leave a container by the door for the donations. It is not awkward at all.
The basic principle of the band is promote and encourage knowledge and appreciation and practice of the art of instrumental music..
The next concert will be Sunday, August 14th, 8:00 p.m. at the Sumtur Amphitheater. I recommend for a pleasant evening of music you attend. It is an hour of time well spent. They ranged in songs from the "Star Spangled Banner", to "Montego Bay Samba", to a salute to Count Basie....
All in all I'll say our group had a very...
Read moreIt's a pretty cool place. From the moment you walk in it screams "low key" which makes it a bit awkward if your attending a rock show. I'm glad to see the Sumtur landing national acts. There is a learning curve that managment is obviously attempting to keep up with, however, falling pretty short. The GOOD: beatiful well manicured lawn area. The sound was good throughout. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The BAD: There were only 3 locations to get drinks and lines were consistently a 15-20min wait. There is a huge gap between the stage and the audience. That might work for a mega festival with hundreds of thousands in attendance... Not so much for a 2500-3000 max capacity nostalgic crowd. Bands feed off energy from the crowd. It's pretty hard for them to feel it when people in the front row are 30 feet away and sitting down for the better part of the performance. Management should get with the times and strongly consider opening a GA "Pit" in front of the stage. Oh and there were 3 ushers who stood in the way for all of the opening act. Someone should tell the management there are only like 8 rows and 3 sections ( left, center, right) it's really not too difficult to find your seat. Overall it was a positive experience. This place has great potential to be a cool destination to watch shows.. If...
Read moreI’ve only been to SumTur a couple of times, but every time, I’ve left thinking, we need to do this more often. :) It’s such a great local spot, especially in the summer. Whether it’s a concert or one of their free movie nights, it just has this relaxed, small-town vibe.
There’s a big open lawn, which is perfect if you’ve got kids—they can run around and play while you wait for things to start.
We usually bring our own blankets, chairs, and snacks (yes, you can bring your own!), but if you forget chairs, no worries—they do have regular seating up front too.
The movies usually start around dusk, and sometimes there’s live music beforehand, which is a nice bonus. It’s just easy, affordable fun. No fighting for parking, no big crowds, just a chill night under the stars.
Even though I’ve only gone a few times, it’s become one of those places I genuinely look forward to visiting again. There’s something special about it—simple, low-key, and exactly what you need on a summer night.
One last thing because the movie starts so late just be prepared for a late night if you want to watch...
