This review is from the standpoint of a seasoned Angler relocated from the southern states.
Overall, not a bad location at all if you know what you're doing. Fishing is hit or miss like it is anywhere else. The only improvement I might suggest is give us bank fisherman and tourists more places to hide from the sun. The docks are often crowded but the bank offers a few decent spots for panfish, crappie, and bass. The best catfishing is best done from the dock or on a boat. The bridge leading to the little island can also be an excellent spot for crappie and bass depending on the time of year and lures used. The water near the docks are shallow out to about 40 feet from the bank. In these areas, a weedless Texas, Carolina, or dropshot rig can be excellent for getting into the underwater grass and coaxing those bass and crappie out from cover. The largest bass I've personally pulled out of the lake is around 6lbs, but I can see the lake producing a few 10lb+ bass if you can manage to find them.
This lake has quite a bit of fishing pressure, so remember that when selecting your angling tackle.
Edit: I hear from locals there's supposedly a fair population of walleye in the lake as well but I have next to zero knowledge about fishing for them and haven't personally caught...
Read moreFull disclosure, I have not explored this park entirely. I am familiar with the dog park, and a nearby trail. The dog parks are great! There is one area for small dogs, one area for large dogs, and huge wide-open nature area with a pond. Each area has plenty of area to sniff, throw a ball, or play around with friends. Each time we've been, there are always other dogs to play with, which we prefer compared to the smaller park in our neighborhood where we are usually the only ones there. Our dog is a small-medium terrier, but he plays well with dogs of all sizes, so we tend to stay in the large dog area. It can be muddy, but I rarely see a lot of poop left behind. Be sure to always clean up after pet. There is a large waste bin in the main gate entrance. There is also a grass walking trail just across the driveway from the dog area. One loop around it is roughly 1 mile. It is a nice way to end our time at the park. Beware, this trail can have large piles of horse manure left behind. They're usually large enough that you'll see them coming up the way and can be sure to avoid misstepping. It's a great park. Lots of unexplored amenities there. And, it's not that far out of the "city". Go...
