There is a rich supply of beautiful natural California plant life. The trees, shrubs, flowers, boulders and lush green belts comprise a bountiful garden, free for all to enjoy and protect.
Below ground and out of sight there is an advanced man-made system which was designed to enhance, promote, and restore some of the benefical ecological processes of the Los Angeles river which were compromised by the well-intentioned engineers who cemented the river bed in order to prevent flooding and flood damage before fully understanding the negative impact such actions would have on the river's ecosystems. The plant life's contrubution to filtering fresh, clean water for people, animals, and crops was grossly underestimated also.
Eco-friendly Dills park; peaceful, shady, natural butterfly habitat, easily accessible walk/hike trails, mature trees, bird watching, picnic tables, play area for small children, strategically disbursed trail-side state-of-the-art fitness equipment, dogs allowed on leash, ample street parking, including handicap spaces.
I would have scored Dills at 5 stars if the CITY were to provide more designated parking and if the PUBLIC were to be more respectfully of the park. Though not severely abused, occasional discarding of debris such as broken bottles, is uncalled for. There are trash receptacles. And city maintenance/clean-up crews regularly tend...
Read more6\2024: the park is not big but it is long, it does run beside the L.A. riverbed. It has a kids play area in the middle but it was under construction. On the north and south side of the park there are open fields to play soccer and in the middle, there is a small soccer court. Along the walk path, there are different exercise equipment, some need some repairs. You can get onto the riverbed walk path from the Somerset (have to walk on the sidewalk), Rosecrans (at the north end of the park there is a gate you climb a steep path), and the is a door in the gate in the middle of the park (have to walk a steep path). There are benches and nice places to sit along the park (be careful you can find broken glass), I only saw 1 restroom on the south end of the park but it does look sketchy. 2017: Fun plece for a walk or jog, a very nice place for the kids to run and play on...
Read moreI been there one time before, it was bigger than I thought it would be. I need to go again and really check it out. It's just like what my friend described it would be. He asked me have I ever been camping before or did I like to walk on trails? I said no, I have never been camping or walked on a trail before, but I'm sure I would enjoy walking on the trail, because I enjoy walking. It reminded me of a miniature forrest, but not with all of the trees and a lot of places to walk. I loved how they set up the play areas for the children. One area had the exercise equipments and a place where the children can play ball. The other area had a log slide and a climbing area for the children. I told my little neice about this place and she would love for me to take her...
