I love this amphitheater! It is definitely my favorite in South Florida. The biggest drawback is parking. Once you park everything is fine: you are close to the entrance and you have plenty of room to tailgate and hang out. However, if you come somewhat close to start time then the line to park becomes ridiculous. I've waited 30 minutes to park before, which is frustrating. So I recommend getting there early.
That is the only major downside. The other downside is the sound stage in the middle eliminates a good portion of the viewing area. If you're behind it you won't be able to see the stage. However, the shows hosted here don't usually pack the house so thankfully you're never really ever forced to be "stuck" behind the sound stage.
Now for the good parts. It is small and intimate. There are no seats. For the more crowded shows they fence off the front around the stage for people who like to be close and enjoy the shoulder-to-shoulder experience. This leaves the non-fenced portion relatively spacious (for a concert) leaving you plenty of room to set up a blanket and claim a dance space. The viewing area is surround by a lake and a field. So in between sets its a great spot for hanging out and seeing some scenery. However, the best part about this lake is that it doubles as a bathroom. This is more for the guys, unless you're a brave woman. But it's great not having to wait in a long line for the bathroom.
That's the last negative about this venue, is the lines. The bathroom and concession lines are way too long and slow. You can easily miss a few songs waiting in line for beer or food.
I know I listed a lot of negatives, but that's only because I have so much praise for this place I feel like I have to point out...
Read moreLocated in the Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, Sunset Cove Amphitheater is a large entertainment facility that hosts numerous events, concerts, festivals, and much more. Overlooking a very lake, the spacious lawn offers plenty of room for patrons and vendors.
I came to attend the fourth annual Art of Music Festival showcasing various artists such as Vision Band, Second Chance, Tifa, Alison Hinds, Third World, and Maxi Priest. They allowed people to enter through the gate after 2pm, but the show didn't start until minutes to 5pm. There were vendors selling merchandise, food, and drinks, but I wasn't willing to pay their high prices. Unless you paid for the VIP seating, you had to provide your own seat on the open lawn to view the show. I found seating and shade from the sun under an available pavilion which gave me a good view of the stage.
The event was nice. Everyone was enjoying themselves between the performances and the DJ playing a mixture of reggae music during the breaks. It was nice to see the soca queen, Alison Hinds, perform live...she was the real deal.... beautiful in person and has a lovely voice while engaging with the audience. I've seen Maxi Priest perform before at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater so it was nice to see him again. The other acts were unknown to me, so I just sat there viewing their performances. I was extremely tired by the end of the event, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Would I attend an event like this again? I would like to, but it depends if I'm able to attend due to my...
