I don't think I'll ever understand why people subject themselves to voluntary walking outside, but for that, this isn't a bad trail. Lots of differing geography and flora to see, not much fauna that I could spot. Be sure you go with either a map or someone who actually knows the trail, and not a friend who's "definitely been here" and will instead lead you into the depth of the proverbial jungle where you'll have to spend 15 minutes wandering around before you reach even the thing strands of civilization existing near the maintained trails.

As a bonus for right now, there's still a lot of the dead cactus from that nasty new cactus fungus. It's pretty horrific, the locals say they'd never seen it beard so quickly. But how often do you get to see a load of dead cactuses? Dead catcii? Dead cactus?

Oh, and the outhouses are just awful. Just go like the ancestors did instead. Lots of...

This is a great trail for hiking and is very popular with mountain bikers. You can go up Brown mountain (fork to the right) o the saddle and down El prieto for a short 8 mile loop which takes about an hour or so (about 1300 feer climb). You can continue up from the saddle to Ken Burton trailhead (2000 feet climb) and then back down to El Prieto or down the Meadows trail and continuing on to Canyon Crest. You can also go to the Gabrielino trail (fork to the left) for less climbing but more stream crossings, about 4 miles to the dam each way and about 500 feet climb. All choices are fantastic. Time the climbs in the early morning or late afternoon as the trail is very sunny and can...

If you're familiar with Griffith Park & Runyon Canyon, these trails are a nice change of scenery with shaded pathways (paved and gravel), small creeks along the way and not as crowded. This is a multi-purpose trail for easy walking, horse riding and bike riding. I will add please be aware that there are many bike riders coming through, some give a heads up, while other zoomed by without warning (caution if walking with a pet or kids) Parking available ( 2 lots)...
