The largest municipal park in the country- tons of trails, classic architecture, and history all around. A few museums, and performance venues also dot the park. Some of the original buildings and various other oddities from the Worlds Fair and US Centenial can be found throughout the grounds. Read up before a visit- you'll be glad you did. The park was originally property that the City bought outside of its city limits to protect the water supply in the Schuylkill river. Other pieces of property were eventually added. As the City expanded- the boundaries encompassed the park. Some of the homes near and around the park were used by the wealthy to 'escape' the City and the Yellow Fever that tended to break out during the summer months due to poor sanitation. Read moreI remember coming here with my family when I was a child and one occasion we stayed near a pond in Fairmont Park and enjoyed this part of Philly that is cloistered from the vastly more urbanized parts of the city. Fairmount Park is a good place to be one with nature . Well as close to it as you can possibly be within a municipality. I can recall seeing my first hawk on this particular trip as it was successfully hunting a pigeon and admiring the beautiful woodlands/scenery as well as the local flora and fuana that are common to this park. I highly recommend visiting this place whenever you have the...
Read moreI highly recommend seeing a show here! I saw Sum41 here and I enjoyed every moment of it. The staff were amazing everything was outside. It was rainy but the trees help to keep you dry plus the whole main floor was fake grass so nobody got hurt from sliding in the mud. There are porter Jon's and regular bathrooms which idk about the men's side but there was one staff directing traffic to help the flow of females coming and going. The food is on the pricier side but well worth the money. I had an asma attach the last two songs and the speed of the staff to come by my side to aid me. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name who helped me he was a god sent. He saved my life!! I will be going back to this venue...
