Excellent place. A nice green getaway at the South end of the city of Philadelphia. There are several lakes there that are connected underground to the Delaware River, so all kinds of fish occur in them, I've even seen thread herring and even blue crabs come out of them- many miles from the ocean and even a nice distance from the Delaware River. There's also many kinds of plants and animals there, including deer. Picnic tables and a skateboard park too. Although there WAS a golf course here, it has been closed for about 3 years now, (at least, as of October, 2021). There are public restrooms though. I just heard, (my wife read online), that the city is going to put a food court there and start charging for parking. as part of it's improvement plan for the park. I hope not! The local people have been enjoying the park since at least since my father was a child, (I'm 61), because it is quiet and undeveloped- and in all that time I, for one, never had to pay to enjoy the one green place near us!

Update: the Philadelphia Flower Show was held here last year and it is being held here again this year, might be permanent! What used to be the golf course is now a "nature trail." They have events for kids now at the old clubhouse and dogs are allowed in the expanse of the ex-golfcourse. They have also planted permanent flower patches, with small signs naming what is planted in them; some of the trees have identifying tags too. The boat house is renting boats again too! They're really putting a lot of work into the park; just keep it free please- like it has always been my whole life - and...

We went to the Philadelphia Flower show and it was fantastic. We took the shuttle from the parking lot to the show and vice versa. Upon entering the area outside the show, it was a little confusing what to do and where to proceed in order to enter the park itself. Nothing a few well placed signs wouldn't correct. Upon entering, we were surprised at the amount of displays, food vendors, merchant tents and bathrooms there were. The food was excellent, a little expensive (expected at events like these), but the variety was outstanding. Worth the cost. The displays were stunning and huge, which you could not do at the Convention center. The price of tickets will continue to be prohibitive to those who may love to come, but cannot afford to bring the family. The music was great and the seating available for those of us "older" is fantastic. At the other location, at the Convention center, the seating was terrible and made it difficult for many of the patrons that could afford the ticket price. We ABSOLUTELY love the new outside venue and hope that it will continue to be at FDR park for the foreseeable future. GREAT JOB PHS AND CITY OF PHILADELPHIA. Oh, please visit the museum on the premises. Always good to know history of others. We intend to visit each year and become a PHS (Philadelphia Horticultural society) member. Please visit the Butterfly tent. AWESOME....

My son in law and daughter rented a picnic spot at FDR Park for their graduation party on a mud-June Saturday. I believe they said it was a $30 rental fee for the afternoon until 6pm. The entire experience was fantastic. We had site #8 and I highly recommend the sites on that side of the park. We were a short walk to the boat house (swan boats for rent as well as access for personal boats) and ball field. It's a one way road that winds around the park with parking on one side of it as well as a few parking lots next to some of the major amenities. That was great in that you couldn't get lost, but if you miss your spot it's a long loop around. Our site has plenty of shade a view of the lake. The rest of the sites in the park were mostly being used. Lots of parties (some with catering tents presumably weddings/fancy parties). One group near us had a couple of bouncy castles, very cool. My advice would be to get one of the lower numbered sites, because once you hit the mid-teens you're surrounded by ball fields, the skate park, and out flea market/food market with tons of vendors, making parking almost impossible. Perhaps on a non-weekend it won't an issue. A fantastic place to visit/utilize/and enjoy in...

starts april 16th! free family fishing at FDR park is a great activity to do with the family 🎣 every wednesday, discovery pathways hosts this event. its free, rods, bait, and basic instructions are provided. we didnt catch anything during this visit (april 2024) but its always fun to get out of the house 💙 you may catch bass, catfish, sunfish/ bluegill, carp, and more. priority is given to south philly residents | bartram’s garden also offers family fishing which begins May 14th and happens every Wednesday from 5-8 pm! Theres also community boating on Saturdays! #thingstodoinphilly #visitphilly #fdrpark #southphilly #phillymom #explorephilly #discoverypathways #phillyfamily #thingstodoinphillywithkids #fishingwithkids #phillymomlife

FDR Park in South Philly offers locals and visitors alike a true smorgasbord of things to do and represents what a modern, urban park can offer residents. From its iconic skatepark know the world over, to the SE Asian Market on weekends, picnic areas, athletic fields, and more, this is a gem of a park. With the funding the city secured a few years ago and the restoration of the former 9-hole golf course as well as other underused areas west of the park, parts of the park are being restored to their original wetland/tidal estuary state and will offer people amazing walking /hiking trails as well as preserving the important ecosystem of the land and, I hope, help us continue to recognize the importance of preserving, and when necessary restoring, important landscapes - particularly marshes, tidal lands, estuaries, swamps, and other places that help control flooding as well as serving as a incubator for young animals of all shapes and sizes. If you're in Philly for more than a day and want to visit a big park that's easily accessible from public transportation, check out FDR Park!

This is a great resource for the city! It's a beautiful, sizeable green space good for picnics, walks, sports, and fishing. There is a huge playground and many tennis/pickle ball courts. There is always something going on at the lakes, whether it's the Asian market, wellness day, jazz music, or kayaking. It's easy and cheap to rent picnic sites around the lake for larger parties, but there is also space to just roll up and set out a picnic blanket. The bathroom situation is not ideal. It's portapotties, but they are useable. Also, there generally aren't food carts or places that sell food in the park, so you need to bring your own stuff. That includes a grill if you rent a picnic site. It's easily accessible by the broad st line. If you can get to the stadiums, you can get to FDR. There is also parking, but it can get cramped during an event day. Be prepared. FDR has become one of my favorite places in the city. It feels like an escape from the buildings and the asphalt and there is plenty of nature. Check it out!
