I came in to purchase a game for the switch. The employee was nice at first but I told them I did not want a membership. I don't shop there enough to bother with it. They told me the game I wanted was available at another store and that I would need a "guest account" to have it transferred this location. Turns out a "guest account" is a membership that autorenews and charges you $25 annually. Also, he didn't mention it would cost money to ship between stores until I asked why the charge was so high. The employee basically lied to me and signed me up for something I specifically mentioned I didn't want and didn't bother mentioning all the fees adding up. I wouldn't have minded driving to the other store to get it if I knew it would cost money for me to ship between stores. I was upset as I got the email immediately about being signed up for a membership. He did refund the membership money after I went back in and wasn't rude about it but didn't seem to understand why I was upset...
Transparency is important!!! I will not shop somewhere that lies by omission to steal membership money from people who didn't know they were even signing up for them.
I had to still pick up the game and then immediately return the game with the store leader who told me the employee had already spoken to him. He didn't seem to care the employee had not been transparent about signing me up for a membership I specified I didn't want and just kept repeating that he "saved" me money. He didn't apologize for the lying or the inconvenience of having to cancel a membership I didn't want. He also didn't save me money because they will be taking $25 from me for the membership in a year if I don't cancel. I am going to cancel the membership of course but I shouldn't have been signed up in the first place!! And lots of people don't check their email like I do and may not have even seen this and Gamestop will be debiting money from their accounts and they won't know why...
No Transparency. No apology either. I'm disappointed and will not shop with Gamestop again. There are plenty other places to shop. I'll just shop at Target where no one is pushing memberships and lying to my face. I will also be complaining to Gamestop Corporate about the lack of Transparency and the lying. This is your company reputation at stake. If you think it's worth it then keep lying to people but I won't be shopping here ever again. I hate these corporations trying to slyly rip people off by lying about signing you up for memberships and slowly siphoning money from your bank account.
It's not 1 star because I did receive my refund without a fight. Just disappointed and upset it happened in the...
Read moreFirst ATTEMPT to shop and actually purchase from this location today - March 8, 2023, I drove 17 miles because this was the only store in the area that had a particular game in stock according to the website.
When I got there, the door was locked, gated...however it was 11:50am, I did not know they opened at 12PM so this was my fault. Not a big deal, I killed time at TJ Maxx for 20 minutes, came back around 12:10-12:15pm and the store was still locked, gated up. Lights in the store and monitor was on behind the counter. By this time another potential customer on his lunch break stopped by, and then 2 more. I also called this store...perhaps the employee was in the back, maybe lost track of time, no idea? No answer, just an automated response that "out associates are helping other customers." (um, no.)
So we all waited outside, windy & cold as it hit 12:30PM, 12:45PM...nothing! Store remained closed, no signage stating "Be Back in 1hr" or anything giving a reason why they were closed. Just no one in sight through the window.
By 12:55...yes almost 1 full hour, we simply left. No idea what the situation was (is). My ASSUMPTION is no one showed up to even open the store for whatever reason.
Total waste of my time...
Read moreImagine getting home after a long day of Christmas shopping and realizing you were charged for an item you didn't purchase and was sold an empty game case. I told the cashier my total was not correct at the time of purchase, but he ensured me I wasn't overcharged. Welp, I was and when I tried to call, the operator said I could not be connected to the store due to technical difficulties. I had to drive back to the store the next day and wait in a long line. Cashier retrieved the actual game disc from the drawer and then proceeds to check the cameras because he says he gave me the item I was mistakenly charged for. Welp, cameras confirmed he incorrectly charged me for the item that I did not receive and refunded me my money.
Overall, the cashiers were friendly both visits. Just make sure you check the games and your receipt...
