Absolutely incredible, unforgettable experience....this museum honors the lives and legacy of the "ordinary black girl"....meaning, not any particular celebrity, just black women and the culture they have created. I left this space feeling seen, valued, cherished and inspired. My heart was full. I love that I got a guided tour from the patient and incredible owner, Mrs. Vashti. This museum is brimming full of thoughtful displays with relevant artifacts. It was very well designed and the presentation of each section was immaculate. It is evident that there was much care, thought and attention invested for the curation of this space. Multiple mediums of art were commissioned and or collected and bring a rich, robust flavor to the gallery: wood work, sculptures, photographs, and paintings, etc. The wash room, in particular, and the Havana room were exhibits that resonated with me the most. I love museums and have been to black museums on nearly every continent and every Caribbean country I've visited. I am proud that this museum exists...and I will be back when I need to refuel!

In Essence they were on the list of ‘must see places’ in Philadelphia, so an impromptu trip was set in motion. After a late night e-mail was answered, knew the decision made was a good one. When I walked on the grounds, it felt like a sacred, safe and creative space. When I walked through the doors, it didn’t feel unfamiliar or strange. Every room held its own story and place in time, yet they connected at the same time. Since we were listening for ‘her’ voice, the intertwining made sense. The warmth, passion, creativity and care is present in this space. Each artist captured the themes beautifully and how they tied them together, again, was remarkable. Am looking forward to them opening again in March. This time, will bring others with me to experience history, herstory and their story.

I loved this space, it is a unique and hidden Gem! Walking into the space it was visibly a collective of talent and freedom Of expression. Vashtie had beautiful and authentic energy. I felt welcome and comfortable in her museum and presence. If your in Philly skip the over crowded “scenes” and check out this lovely intimate Masterpiece💜 you wont forget this experience.

Let me tell you about this gem in Philly – The Colored Girls Museum. It's like walking into a soul hug from the past, present, and future, all at once. We rolled up there with our Sisterhood Sit-In Trolley tour, and honey, it was a vibe!

This place may seem tiny, but it's mighty in spirit. Imagine trying to squeeze our group of 20+ fabulous women into a space – it was tight, but it was right! Every corner of this museum is packed with stories, art, and the kind of energy that makes you wanna snap your fingers and say, "Yes, I see you, sis!"

The exhibits? Baby, they're not just exhibits; they're like pages from a diary we all share. Each piece tells a story of struggle, triumph, and everything in between. It's a celebration of our hues, our histories, and our fierce resilience. You feel the ancestors whispering in your ear, sharing wisdom and winks.

And the education? You come out knowing more about our heritage, our unsung heroines, and the art that speaks our truth. It's like a lesson in black girl magic, but make it historical and artsy.

So, in conclusion, The Colored Girls Museum? It's a must-visit. It's tight in space but limitless in its impact. You leave feeling seen, uplifted, and a part of something bigger. It's not just a museum; it's a movement. A beautifully crowded, soul-stirring, eye-opening movement.

Stay fabulous and keep exploring, sis!

A MUST-VISIT CULTURAL GEM!!

I had the opportunity to visit The Colored Girls Museum, and it was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. This isn’t your typical museum—it’s an intimate, immersive space dedicated to celebrating the stories, history, and experiences of Black women in a deeply personal and thought-provoking way.

From the moment I stepped inside, I could feel the intentionality behind every exhibit. The artwork, artifacts, and narratives are beautifully curated, creating an emotional and inspiring journey through Black womanhood. Unlike traditional museums, this space feels like stepping into a home filled with living history—every corner tells a story.

The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, offering insight into the exhibits and making the experience even more enriching. However, keep in mind that visits are often by appointment only, so planning ahead is key!

If you’re in Philly and looking for a meaningful cultural experience, The Colored Girls Museum is a must-visit. It’s more than just a museum—it’s a celebration, a tribute, and a space for reflection....
