Paradise Valley Community college is more than just a college because it is truly a community with people who truly care about your success! The teachers, staff, and students all make you feel welcome. The campus is also beautiful to talk a walk around both indoors and outdoors. Buying/renting textbooks and any needed items physically and digitally is a pretty smooth transition!
One of the best interactions I had at PVCC was when I was inquiring about enrolling at PVCC in Fall 2020 for the spring semester 2021 as a new student, the supervisor in the PVCC Admissions/Recruitment office for new students (I cannot remember his name... Alex/Josh maybe? He's the main supervisor for new students for PVCC) was SO kind over the phone! He literally talked to me for 30-45 minutes explaining deadlines for FAFSA, placement test advice, payment plans, what scholarships I should apply for, broke down how FAFSA exactly works depending on how many classes you take, and even connected with me about him being a former actor then how he transitioned to getting an educational degree when he went back to school before landing his job with helping college students which was so neat to hear as I'm a Theatre Major so he was not only able to provide some insight as a former artist but he eased my anxious feelings about not knowing everything I needed to do in order to apply because he was very personable and didn't get annoyed at me when I was asking basic questions about enrollment. He was the FIRST college person to break everything down and give me an order of what was important so I could be as successful as possible. I didn't get that type of kind and thoughtful explaining about college when I was in high school applying to colleges. I had talked to other colleges and universities where conversations were off-putting unfortunately they would just say everything you needed to do as a new student within 30 seconds and then get frustrated if you don't understand or needed clarification.
I highly recommend PVCC if you're looking to do your Associates Degree, Associate to transfer to a Bachelor's at university, or even to take some classes just for fun because you just want to learn THE THING you've always wanted to do but are scared, do it at PVCC (for me it was dance classes, I finally did my first two dance classes EVER at PVCC and...
Read moreHey guys! Im writing this review to let you all know about my experience with PVCC. I've been to a total of four different colleges , and have experience under my belt.
What I dislike:
Admissions staff is not knowledgeable of My.Maricopa: The first place most students call at a college is the admissions office. During the time I began the admissions process , staff did not bother to explain where admissions packets must be submitted. This would be frustrating for any student out of high school and any transfer student looking to further their education. They loose a star for this.
Admissions could be more welcoming : As mentioned earlier, admissions was not helpful. In emails,a woman named "Lori" responded very vaguely with only one sentence responses. After speaking to "Lori" via phone she was vulgar ,not knowledgeable, and left me on hold for 40 minutes until i hung up.
The Good:
4)Administration Is mostly MALE : Men (especially white men) are heavily prone to scrutiny from female scholars. I advise any male who is searching for a college to be aware of who the administration is. Colleges who have female administration obtain a higher ration of female graduates. While colleges comprised of mostly male administration , obtain a more equal ratio of male to female graduates. Several colleges nowadays are being seized by female administrators who employ a mostly female staff - thus resulting in a system catered to females, and more female graduates. The fact that PVCC has a mostly male administration is refreshing in comparison to the four colleges I've attended which were all governed by females. I would advise any male to attend this college because their likelihood of successfully graduating is increased.
I will update my comment later , hopefully after graduating from the program I am...
Read moreWhether you are just starting out at college after high school or you're a returning student, PVCC is a great choice! Having my mom as an PV alumna made the transition to college much easier for me and gave me a better idea of what to expect! There are so many degrees and programs to choose from, so many exciting things to get involved in, and the faculty and staff go above and beyond to encourage success for every student! The professors and advisors I had were absolutely amazing and it was easy to make new friends! I started at PV in fall 2017 after being the recipient of the President's Honors Scholarship. However, as a former honors student, I will say their honors program could use some improvement. My first semester was difficult initially after I received academic probation, but over time I was able to work hard, manage my time well and I became very successful at PV. I have been on the President's Honor list many times and became part of the Alpha Omicron Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa during my last semester. I graduated with my AA in journalism in fall 2020, and I'm so proud to be a part of the alumni at PVCC! Go...
