Imagine our disappointment after visiting all the other states Welcome Centers to decide to stop off at our OWN HOME STATE center after having our hopes up for an impression as the road sign said it closed at 5:30pm and after a horrendous drive through Charlotte traffic trying to stay in the right lane so we wouldn't miss the turn off... Just to arrive at 5:16pm for the doors to be locked and two people inside not even acknowledge me and my children there to find out WHY they're closed when the road sign said it was open!?!! Idgaf what it says on the door the damn road sign says 5:30pm and if you ask me during daylight savings time AND tourist season it should be open to 6:30pm 6pm at the very least. What I did see of it did not impress me anywhere near as North Carolina and Virginia. I am disgustingly disappointed in my home state among other things (interstate garbage, environmental eye sores, structural eye sores, road signs, disrespectful drivers, etc etc), I now understand why people talk so much trash about us. I am born and raised South Carolinian and My Dear South Carolina YOU NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER!! Btw In my great attempt to teach my children how much more wonderful of a state we live in compared to NC and VA to compare state flyers only found at welcome centers... It would be great if someone there could mail me one of every flyer you have available because It's not gasonomical for me to drive from Columbia to Charlotte just to turn around to get back to the Welcome Center for those flyers that should have been available when we came through not to mention the childrens lack of experience for our home state welcome center. I expect better changes on my next annual trip out of state. Have...
Read moreThis was the absolute worst I have ever experienced at a state welcome center. I popped in late this afternoon only to pick up a hotel booklet and was met by an older gentleman that completely ruined my day. Before giving me the booklet he asked where I was coming from to which I replied Canada. That was it - things went south from there. He said he was surprised I was allowed into the USA and went on how he felt USA has been taken advantage of by Canada and on and on. I remained polite and said I guess the US does not want any Canadian tourist $$$. My wife and I have spent the last 10 years of our retirement year as snowbirds- spending over $10K/year in many locations all over USA. IMHO an individual like this should keep his political opinions for other venues- definitely not a 'Welcome' center. Over the years I have been fortunate to make many great friendships while traveling in USA and do believe you cannot paint everyone with the same brush. Hopefully this individual will one day realize his Canada-USA issues have no place at the...
Read moreBeautiful scenery as you drive on to the property.. Its clean, has adequate amount of parking for trucks and cars alike. There's separate covered picnic areas with individual grills equipped in each. The building is very modern, with quiet swings in a welcoming environment!? As you enter the building its very spaious? The employees are welcoming and know their facts about South Carolina and what direction to point you in depending on what you're looking for or wanting to do! They also have an interactive touch screen map powered by Google Maps and of you want to go the old way by a paper map for any one not up to date with new technology... & they're also free along with so many other informational brochures and magazines about beaches, mountains, hiking trails, and parks... and anything else of interest ...
