What can I say, its a Costco. You pay your annual membership, you will probably never get out of the store without spending less then $150. They have tons of awesome organic stuff. Some stuff is slightly overpriced comparatively speaking but that's Costco marketing for you. The Kirkland brand is strong and good. We like a lot of their items.
Pros: Organic Food choices; Continually have a new selection. Well managed location. Friendly cashiers when checking out. Their food court pizza is leaps and bounds better then Sam's club (Sam's you feel like you are eating cardboard) Hot Dog and a drink is still $1.50 they lose money on that but that was a deliberate decision form Costco's CEO who I think said "leave the ... hot dog pricing alone when he was getting push back" caution, I maybe misremembering. Gas prices are generally better then competitors near by. -Some gift cards can be a good buy especially if they have it for your favorite restaurant.
Neutral (not taken into star consideration): Ok but not great level of friendliness at customer service (maybe that jobs more stressful) You can almost never find anyone walking around to help, maybe this type of place is not that style. If you ever do find someone they are not super helpful or friendly.
Cons: Big Con: They don't take Master Card, I have to keep a Visa open just for this place. In terms of this Sam's Club has it much better where they accept pretty much anything. (Although Sam's I feel has a poor organic selection and do not update to new choices close to as often)
Sometimes the wait in the lines can be quite long, just be prepared.
-Sometimes other customers are not super friendly, I just think people should always try to be courteous, just makes the world a better place.
Parking can be a bit more difficult sometimes but even then not to horrible even on weekends I think, others I'm sure will disagree.
In the COVID time the Costco pizza has gotten rid of the all meat and all vegetable pizza and have only left cheese or pepperoni to choose from, this is a big deal for us, if it does not change back after COVID more stars will be removed (not counted in star decision this time around).
They do not offer deasil at their gas station. Its a dying breed, suspect the future is probably EV.
Popular gift cards are often out of stock.
Things to Know: A trick every place like this does is put their crazy high ticket prices right in the front like 5K to 7K priced TVs they do this on purpose because everything else you buy in comparison will seem comparatively much lower, its one of those psychological things people don't realize unless someone points it out.
Obviously the milk and eggs (or pretty much the most needed item) is all the way in the back so you have to walk the entire store and see more things along the way.
The end caps can be tricky and where they make a ton of profit for impulse buyers who see a shiny new object at a discounted price.
Final Thoughts: Its a Costco, if you are a shopper and you know what it is you need it, hopefully their prices stay in check. Obviously we will continue...
Read moreI should give zero star to the management at this location (771 Airport Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI 48108), because the managers were so rude and unprofessional.
The old guy with white hairs, who checks membership cards at the door, is a bully and always picked on me, because I complained after the third time he ONLY checked my card without checking anyone elseâs who were in front of me and behind me.
One day, I went to the store and saw a wallet left in an empty shopping cart by someone and reported it to him. The next time, he smiled at me when I walked in. So, he definitely remembered me and he definitely knew I was a member. I didn't smile back because he had not been fair to me. I think that made him mad at me.
On 4/4/2019, I went to the store and he stopped me at the door and asked for the membership card. There were several people in front of me and behind me. He didn't ask ANYONE except me. I felt it was very unfair. So, I went to talk with the managers about it.
The assistant manager, Eva Co, was very unprofessional. She did not want to listen to the whole story and just kept saying that I should show my membership card at the door. I knew I should and I showed my membership card EVERY TIME when I was asked except that day I got fed up with my unfair treatment. She also said that guy checked on everyone that day. I knew he did not, so I asked her to show me the store video records for proof. She denied my request. So, I asked to speak to the general manager.
The general manager, Richard (he did not want to give me his last name), came out and jumped into siding with Co right away. He did not want to listen carefully, but mocked me for my memory by saying that I couldnât remember things that just happened a few minutes ago! I couldnât believe how rude he was!
The two were very unprofessional and had no customer service skills. They did not acknowledge the feelings of their customer and never tried to understand the point I was talking about (customers need to be treated equally and fairly). They just kept saying that I should show my membership card and had no interest in investigating in the harassment by that guy.
The professional ways to handle a complaint would be: stay calm, listen well, acknowledge the problem, get the facts, and offer a solution. But, they did NONE of those things. I felt it was just wasting my time to try to let them understand their customers. So, I just walked away without buying anything from there.
I used to buy tons of stuff from this store, because I run two daycares and we need a lot of household items. But, from now on, I will NEVER go there to buy anything!
I was so angry and thought about suing them for the harassment, but I am too busy to do so. I would rather spend my time on taking great care of my daycare families.
I read a lot of reviews for this store. The complaints are always about its management and customer service. To be honest, Costco is a great company, but I don't understand why they let those unprofessional people run...
Read moreCheep gas, good quality products but don't always cary the same things all the time which is frustrating when you want more of something, even their own branded products.
You do however need to be careful with prices some things are a very good deal buying in bulk packaging but some are actually more per unit then buying in a "normal" store
I will never understand why they check member cards on the way in. You can't check out without one, seems just a pia to customers to check twice. Half the time I just hold my phone up like I'm on a call or say I'm there to buy alcohol (which they can't require a member ship for) to prevent having to dig it out of my wallet. Just put signs up saying you need to be a member to check out and stop harnessing people on the way in honestly.
The bathrooms are extremely inconvenient location but are clean and well cared for. You have to leave your cart and go behind the fence to get to them. If you do this when starting your shopping or only have an item or 2 in your cart , the damn thing gets stolen your items left in the floor. This is just rude of people but Costco could do allot to make it better for it's patrons without changing their security posture.
They do feed you thought out the store, even with covid. This is nice but if you go hungry, your gonna come home with allot more then you planned ;)
The location is a bit of a pia to get to because Ann Arbor doesn't know how to time lights and has tons of dumb Michigan lefts. Expect at least a 10 minute wait when leaving. There are several poorly times lights to get back on the highway that is less then a mile away.
As a bulk warehouse store, you don't get bags for your purchases, this normally isn't a big deal, you can just use your own. Except the now, presumably because of covid , they won't let you take them in. It's very frustrating to have to bag your purchases while standing outside in the cold, especially when other normal stores are allowing reuseable bags again
The check out lines are generally longer then they should be. The layout of the store makes it difficult to get to many to the lines. There are always 5 -10 people directly in front of you when you get in line. The cashier's are generally friendly and work hard to get your through fast though.
Exiting, like most warehouse stores, requires a receipt. Huge pia if you go there for just one thing they are out of and don't have a receipt. Some of these receipt checkers are laided back and get you through quickly, but some take forever to count numerous small items buried in your cart. I don't fully understand why they go to such lengths for this because with the layout of the store, you can't get to the exit door without going through a checkout lane anyway. Expect a 3-10 minute wait to get out the door after checkout. Just have some one produce a receipt with today's date if they have a cart and let people get on...
