Marshall Gold Discovery California State Park is an amazing state park in Coloma California. From Sacramento it is about an hour drive through the scenic lower Sierra Foothills. The state park itself includes a museum, which is wonderful and a fairly large gift shop with a diverse amount of trinkets and gifts. There are hiking trails and A lot of different places to explore on the park grounds. You can park for free on the main street or pay for daily parking in one of the lots. You have to pay for the day use pass at the museum. Children can sign up for the junior rangers program as well. It is definitely worth it to do the gold panning lessons. Sign up for that at the museum as well. Then walk across the street to the lessons. There is always a blacksmith on hand during the busy season. They sell their goods in the gift shop. The post office is actually a real working post office for the community. You can walk along main Street as if you had been there a hundred years ago. Bring a picnic lunch too! There are many many picnic tables scattered throughout the park. Then walk across the bridge and go panning for gold down in the river itself and let the children wade in at a...
Read moreCame here with my nephew's 4th Grade field trip. It was great being reminded of a part of California's history. It was also such an amazing experience to see my nephew experiencing the same field trip I went on when I went on in the 4th grade. Coloma has a great museum that shows the history of the area curated just perfectly. The gift shop has a variety of things to choose from to commemorate your visit. There is a farm to fork restaurant if you get hungry. There also plenty of picnic tables if you decide to bring your own food. Plenty of recycle bins and garbage bins as well. There is a little post office. There was a blacksmith demonstration. Also gold panning demonstration that you get to participate in as well. Love this place. It is just right not only for singles, couples, but...
