NO BIKES/FISHING/DOGS was searching for some good bike trails near Plainfield and saw other reviews mention great paths for biking and fishing while I was here a cop coming down the trail, alerted us there’s absolutely no bikes fishing or dogs tolerated at this preserve due to heron protection. She noted that there were several signs at the entrance but I obviously wasn’t expecting/looking out for a no bikes sign, didn’t even know that was a thing. Besides that great preserve 👍🏼

Beautiful place! We drove an hour to see the birds to only discover a gate and a sign saying it was closed to see the birds area due to mating season. On the website it’s not talked about so just fyi for those wanting to go. March 1-August 15 it is closed. The other trails are open. Those trails allowed dogs and bikes but the one with the birds do not- which understandable for why- don’t want to scare the birds. Still a beautiful location.

Birdwatching, walking, bike riding... Whatever you're into, you will not be disappointed. Amazingly beautiful scenery at this place that feel like you're on vacation when you're here. Depending on when you go, you will see lots of people taking pictures of the bird sanctuary or fishing in the lake. Fall is the best time to come and enjoy the scenery here but anytime is pretty good. Definitely worth a shot to check this place out 👍

This seems to be a good preserve for bird photography. It has separate bird watching tower area that provides excellent view for migratory birds photography. I visited this place on Sunday and the gate was closed. Check with visitor center by calling in advance. That will save time if you are planning to visit specifically for photography. Overall, it was a good experience based on section of the preserve I was able to explore. Definitely coming back in the peak season of...
