Taste of Jerusalem in Plainfield prepared a vegeterian Meditreeranean feast for ten adults in two hours for under $150 USD. Our dinner party included the couple who recommended Taste of Jerusalem, whether they both recalled the enthusistiac suggest is not relevent to this review. For others at the table, this was there was taste of falafel. Once plates were piled silence fell across the soiree and it was clear Taste of Jerusalem is a hit. "I ate so much of it so quickly that I didn't want to see any more of it for a little while" said someone in a navy satin jacket.
Portions are hearty and we ordered too much food to consume in four quarters so a number of attendees left with food themselves while I have had the past week to nosh leftovers. The chicken shawerma was a specific request in addition to the vegetarian options and did not last the evening. Our order included both spicy and white rice, a beautiful and fluffy long grain variety and this was a spicy group. In the future, I will see the guidance of the helpful staff at Taste of Jerusalem when ordering for a group this size.
And speaking of the staff, they provided an incredible level of service - from taking my order in-person and confirming with the back of house staff my time table to communicating my order, packing is well, and reminding me to carry the bags from the bottom. In the few mintues I waited for them to package the order, I appreciated the dining room and ambiance. I'm curious about the tea and coffee options.
I can give no better review for Taste of Jerusalem than this: with baba ghanoush and hummus still in my fridge, Iam ordering carry out again tonight. Less than a week later. The chicken shawerma, falafel, and spicy rice are that good and I am eager to try the fattoush salad and kabob. This time arrive from heading east on Rt.30 instead of turning right exiting the Boulevards/Costco. The construction is a temporary inconvenience and one I will glady navigate for this delight...
Read moreWent yesterday for the 1st time. Walked in to an empty restaurant around 11:50am. I said "hello" got no response from the guy in the kitchen. We sat down unbeknownst to us you order at the counter until informed by a young lady (who didn't smile once while we were there). We order a beef schwarma entree and a beef schwarma wrap...total $24.99. Pricey but expected portion of entree would justify price. We were told it'd be 10 mins since cook was just turning things on even though they presumably open at 11am. 30 minutes go by before we get our order. Never a "sorry it's taking longer than expected; sorry for the wait; sorry your order is going take longer than what we thought; sorry about the wait, would you like a drink meanwhile(no drinks ordered)". You get the idea....good customer service. My food was given to me in a to-go styrofoam container even though we were eating in. The main issue I have, therefore giving them 3 stars, is that BOTH the entree and wrap were SUPER skimpy!!! Super small salad no oil as mentioned in other review..just a little lemon, a very chewy pita, small layer of spicy rice that was anything but fluffy and although the beef schwarma in both quality and taste were the best I've had what they gave was a real joke for a $13 entree! I couldn't believe it! My daughter's wrap should've been named the flat wrap and mine a beef schwarma sample it entree.....I had such high hopes based on reviews but we were very disappointed with...
Read moreThis place is a joke, don't come here! Honestly, I'm pretty sure it's just a non-Arab place. We broke our fast here, and it was honestly the biggest mistake. We came here for the first time yesterday, thinking it would be great, but it was far from that. I don’t know what the reviews are saying about it being good. As a Middle Eastern, I can tell you it’s not good at all.
We got two of the combination platters with spicy rice, kufta kebab, and meat. On the side, we got cucumber yogurt and tabbouleh. For starters, we ordered, picked up the food, and ate within the next 3 minutes. The rice was cold (unless you guys sell cold rice on purpose?). The meat had a terrible aftertaste. The tabbouleh, which I was really looking forward to, had zero flavor. Did you forget the lemon and olive oil? Was I supposed to just eat parsley? Not that it’s about the price, but that little container was $7.
The garlic sauce was very questionable—it seemed like just mayo with garlic powder. The cucumber yogurt was OK—how can you mess that up? But it was also a tiny container for $7. The kufta was the only tasty thing. You do not get your moneys worth at all. Such SMALL PORTIONS.
Shame on you guys—that’s really embarrassing. Haram honestly, that food can’t be served to people. I wish I didn’t have to leave such a bad review, but it was one disappointment after another. I also suggest you guys don’t have such a smart mouth...
