Updated review - I brought my freshly rebuilt and tested subwoofer home from Sound Approach with great expectations. After about 2 weeks of service, I had an issue with my AVR and my subwoofer had to sit unplugged in the corner till my AVR was returned. The warranty process took a few months but upon reconnecting my setup the freshly rebuilt subwoofer wouldn't power on. I contacted DJ and at first he was hesitant to stand behind the service work performed at his shop. He reluctantly agreed to take a look but he stated it would be awhile before he could get it on the bench. When I dropped the subwoofer off at the shop, I spoke in depth with him and told him in no uncertain terms I was not putting any more money into the speaker. He was understanding and very gracious offering to explore other speaker options should the speaker be unfixable. I left the shop feeling like I had found a genuine "good guy" that cares about his customers. A few weeks later, DJ called to give an update. He stated, they had the speaker on the bench and they were in the process of contacting the vendor that had rebuilt the amplifier. He said he would contact me once he heard back from the vendor. I waited a few more weeks and I get his call this morning. He informs me that my speaker is now working but there was more cost (over $300). I reminded him about our previous conversation and told him I didn't authorize anything and was adamant about not putting any more money into the speaker (I already spent a considerable amount with his shop to rebuild this 20 yo subwoofer and wasn't about to spend a penny more). At this point I was beyond upset, I picked up my speaker as soon as I could. The discussion was simple, I would not be paying him for any unauthorized work done. He started to make excuses and even tried to justify the added cost even though the shop had gone against my explicit instructions. I debated whether or not to bother writing down my experience with this business but I felt that the only good that might come from this whole debacle is someone might read my review and save themselves the time, money, effort and headache of dealing with this business.
Original review - I was in a real predicament with my beloved main subwoofer stopped working. Twenty plus years of service is good, but a modern appropriate replacement would be way out of budget and probably not as smooth a sound due to it not timber matching. It took time, patience, and more money than I really wanted to spend, but DJ returned my beloved Klipsch RT-12D to me repaired and ready to thump. My satisfaction from repairing and not replacing this iconic subwoofer is starting to smooth out the feeling I got at the register when time to pay. I might be a bit less economically endowed than their normal clientele so thats probably where some of the sticker shock stems from. DJ was willing to indulge my desire to attempt to rebuild the old girl as opposed to scrapping her. Read moreVery disapointed with customer service. I bought expensive turntable from them via online. When i set it up it was running 33.6 to 33.7. Called and rep named Alan was initialy friendly, cordial, siad yes i understand your concern, it should not have this problem blah blah blah. He then called me back saying he spoke with manufactorer and they said replacement motor will also have speed deviation, runing 33.5. On their website specs clearly states speed variance .06%. Thus, 33.6 is not 0.06% but in fact is 1%. Which is huge for such expensive model. Anyway, after i asked to return the item, thats when he went 180 on me. Why should i pay shipping when you yohrself aknowlwledged that its not up to standards to have this issue on new expensive turntable. I never in my life had such rude reply: he said: "im having terrible day, i have to let you go" Ha? Are you serious? How do you talk to a customer like that? Or anyone in that matter.
