The G Kurtz Experience:
My son needed a cut. He, as a young white kid, had never had an experience at an predominantly African American barbershop. Today we changed that.
the cut was TOP NOTCH. I gave the barber the freedom to make it right. He did not disappoint. Even my son thought he looked “sic”.
the shop was clean and family oriented and entertaining. Everyone seemed to be friends and people came in just to hang out.
the barbers didn’t know this but my son has Autism. He makes some noises at times and says random things. The barbers treated him like a friend. That means the world to us as parents.
at least two of the barbers are vets (air force) - so you can feel good supporting vets work their craft.
Notes for other white folks having the G Kutz experience:
A) this is an experience - not a pop in and out haircut. It may move a little slower than you are used to - but the end result is more than worth it.
B) your hair may be done slightly different than you are used to. It is more of an old school clippers and scissors experience (in that order) - so do not freak out. It will be okay.
C) be ready to engage. The full G Kutz experience is best when you talk about whatever the shop is discussing at that time. It could be movies and investment or the Iliad and Thanos - but you will be spoken to and have far more fun if you fully engage.
D) at the time of this review the cuts were 20 for your head and 5 more for your face. Most white folks will not need their face trimmed at the barber - so just ask for a cut. Tips are not included - take care of your barber and he will take...

Dennis cut my hair and it turned out great, but it was a painful haircut. Smooth is the last word I’d use to describe his cutting style. He was very choppy with the trimmer, and poked my head multiple times with the sharp ends of it. After the haircut it felt as if the back of my neck had razor burn.
The shop itself is alright, no real issues there.
One big improvement they can make is for the employees to have a standard uniform. The street clothes they wear adds an unprofessional aspect to the atmosphere. Uniforms with names would go a long way, and may even instill a sense of pride in the barbers.
Other notes: they only accept cash and they don’t have prices listed. When I asked what I owed, Dennis said “whatever”. On top of that, I had to run to an ATM to get cash. Not a good...

Got a cut by Manny the first time I went there and it was great. Great guy, took his time, and took pride in his work.
I didn't set up an appointment for my second time and just walked in. An older gentleman, first chair on the right, cut my hair and it was horrible. Left side of the fade was nice and faded but the right right looked like a mushroom. I didn't notice until I got home and washed my hair since he just combed it down and towards the front. I also asked to take half an inch off the top but he only cut a portion of the front left by an inch, leaving the rest uneven. Felt like he just rushed towards the end, wanting to get done and go home.
One star due to the...
