When I was deciding where to eat for lunch a week ago, I was worried that the quality of the sushi would be low, considering the prices for lunch are ridiculously affordable if you love sushi (average price is about $8-10 for lunch).
I decided to give it a go and ordered the sushi/shashimi bento box (for only $11, mind you) and it came with 8 pieces of fish (4 sushi, 4 sashimi, can you believe?), soup, salad, a spring roll, and a slice of fruit. Every bit of food was excellent quality, and I left feeling full. The fish is the freshest I've had in the Newport News/Williamsburg area, too.
And if you're someone who's not a fan of sushi or sashimi while your family is, there are TONS of non-fish dishes. In fact, the number of meat-based lunch specials seem to outnumber the amount of fish-based specials! My mother had their chicken teriyaki and was shocked to find that it tasted even better than a teriyaki joint in town we're both fans of.
Service was wonderful (fairly prompt, but not rushing); no mistakes in the order were made. The place is clean, the atmosphere is casual, but still nice and modern. A lovely restaurant.
All-in-all, you get so much for your money at Kero (not that price should always determine where you get sushi, but let's be honest-- it's nice to feel full after a meal AND know that you haven't spent a fortune) without sacrificing quality of food, service, and atmosphere. I could eat...
Read moreI liked everything, my order was the lobster roll and volcano roll that come with miso soup and I added a soft drink. Volcano roll was the best I've ever experienced! In short everything was tops yet their volcano roll really stood out to better the rest. I would try their lobster noodle dish, if I were famished. My daughter, who has been there often, had that dish. She was very hungry but she had to bring nearly half of it home. And, as many times she's been there, she knew what she likes from their menu. We were there a bit after 6PM there were probably eight other parties, some with takeouts. Seating was barely used. It was quiet enough to get wait staff attention, which was already easily above adequate. It was part of a father-daughter date that I won't forget.
(She wanted to pay it all. But,I paid half the bill and both of our tips; she paid for a movie and most of the popcorn, special attraction collectibles and beverages. I can hardly believe that movie lasted after midnite. She got me...
Read moreImmediately upon entry, I was greeted with a warm and smiling face. The exemplary staff assisted me with my selection, and explained what the various options were for each dish. I arrive at this location for one thing, sashimi. Specifically sashimi which, I heard contained an integral ingredient to the dish. Shiso. It seemed as soon as my order was placed, the delectable fish was cared for and carefully managed as the precision cuts in front of me were systematically placed upon a bed of fresh daikon. Each unique flavor separated by fresh shiso and not the typical baran seen within our area.
Don’t let the ambience for you, seems a bit dim, however if you’re looking for an exemplary sashimi experience I highly recommend visiting Kero sushi in the kiln Creek plaza. Their staff and expertise paired with some of the freshest ingredients I have encountered on the peninsula undoubtably make this establishment...
