So breath taking........I was there memorial day week....and I loved looking at that Cristo. I had been reading up on it and read that it was donated by a family of fishermen that did not return back home, instead the 2 fishermen were found on a boat unresponsive. Today, June 17, 2019, I met a man in Fort Wayne, Indiana and we got to talking about where we came from and where we were raised. He said he was raised in Brownsville, Texas, A hop and a skip from the island. I too was raised in a small town near there.....He asked me if I had heard or seen that statue of Cristo and I said "who doesn't see it when they drive by" and he told me his grandparents were the ones who donated that statue.....like OMG, the hairs on my arms raised up. Read moreWe visit the beach with family and get to see this statue every time. A great reminder of what we are called to do. As far as the beach, usually not crowded, most days waves "large" enough to body surf. There is a $10 pass fee for entrance to the beach and this statue is in there. They do $5 for veterans. They do have a covered concession area with restrooms with shower and room for changing. Places to eat headed there or away are plenty.
