The Paperback Exchange Bookstore — Attraction in Port Richey

What a FABULOUS store! If you're a bibliophile like me, you'll definitely want to stop in - just make sure you've got time to browse! This is not a tiny store, it's actually a pretty good sized place, but it's wall-to-wall books, with a couple of chairs scattered around so you can catch your breath before wading back in. The owner mans the register and has a VAST and eclectic knowledge about every book I'VE ever asked about, as well as the author, and even some obscure quotes from the story some times! Whether you're reading for fun, for your education, for your job, or general research, you'll probably find the right book here, but if she doesn't have it, she's likely to know where she can find it! She also buys your used books (or buys back whatever you're purchasing) for store credit - and it's not a few cents per book, she's VERY fair with giving credit! Very overpriced. The owner has explained the process of exchanging the books in order to spend less money, but it really doesn’t make sense to me. It seems like a library I have to pay for. I am buying the books because I want to own them, not because I want to return them later. I found very battered and poor quality copies of books for $4, and multiple over-produced copies that the store had dozens of copies of that were 6$ each. I understand needing to make a profit, but only being able to cover 50% of a purchase with store credit means I still need to spend a lot to use it. The store feels very disorganized, it’s difficult to find anything, and I found the selection very limited. Now that I’ve used my store credit, I’d rather drive 2 hours to a used book store in Orlando. I love that this store is so queer-friendly, and the owner is incredibly kind, but I don’t expect to go to a USED bookstore and get only 5...

Just moved to the area and my mom told me about an awesome little bookstore she knew. When we stepped in, I automatically felt that comfortable feeling. There's nothing quite like a small, locally-owned bookstore. Everything was well organized and the owner was knowledgeable about what she had and where everything was. The organization system was pretty cool and she was sure to tell me about the selection she had on local authors and how she interviews some of them and has the interviews available on YouTube and Facebook.

The store is LGBTQ+ friendly and when I let the owner know I was part of the community, she told me of local bars, drag shows, and upcoming pride related events. Awesome experience and I'll definitely be back time...
