The dog park in the city of Porterville is atrocious. About a year and a half ago, my wife and I were playing fetch in a fenced in baseball field. Porterville Animal Control confronted us, saying we were "lucky" we didnt receive a couple hundred dollar ticket for not having our dog on a leash. When we asked where we can take our pet, they informed us about the city of Porterville dog park. Ariving at this elusive dog park 5 minutes out of city limits "perfect for our furry companion", it was anything but. In the hot summer months we were met by a field of thorns and an unwatered desert ditch. In the winter months, its a flooded runoff swamp. There is water draining directly INTO the park. Where the excess water accumulates and turns to filth. Originally, dogs were stepping onto the drain grate and breaking legs. The only thing that was done was put a to fence over it. This time of year, the only water for the dogs to drink gets shut off. We spend half the time running around the park, making sure all the dogs aren't trying to drink swamp water and get sick. Mind you this is the ONLY place in Porterville we can freely play with our pet to let them run and just be a dog for a few minutes. Not tied up, stuck in a fence, or locked indoors. All we ask for, is an area we can take our dog to play. Not getting sick from water or spending an hour pulling off thorns and washing off mud. For Porterville having a pupulation of over 60,000 people, this dog park is nothing but an afterthought and a fenced in ditch. Our pup truly loves going to play at this park. But we are concerned for the safety and well-being of our beloved pet.Take action before another dog gets sick or hurt; and the park gets shut down because the city is in the middle of a lawsuit. We don't want to be forced to drive 30 minutes out of town to let our dog off a leash. Thank you. -The concerned dog owners of Portervillei

This place is a nice to place to play and bond with your dog! There are two sections, one side is for small dogs under 30 pounds. The other section is for bigger dogs 30 or over. Remember to always supervise your children and pets. Always pick up after your dog. Let's keep this place nice!😁

A big and well-maintained dog park with small and large dog areas, poop bags, water fountain and a few obstacles. Highly recommended, but if it's been raining be careful if your dog likes to dig in mud puddles!

This dog park is really pretty ok. I'm not a fan of dog parks as a rule (my dogs go to daycare but I prefer structure & ppl genuinely paying attn to what the dogs are up to to the common insanity you get at dog parks...we've had some less-than-ideal experiences at others in the past) but both days we went we had it to ourselves. I took 1 star off for the amount of burrs I had to pick off my golden & 1 for the lack of shade, there are trees planted & eventually that will be a REALLY nice, shady park...but not yet. Overall it's nice, huge play areas & the waste bags were stocked (although, as usual, some feel the need to ruin it for everyone by not using them). We were just passing thru on a trip but it was worth the stop, the dogs had a good time running off...

It was peaceful, and had a good amount of grass considering how dry most places are right now. My dog loved exploring and running from end to end. There was only one other dog when I went and that's okay! There are two sections for small and big dogs. Both sections are fairly large with benches, trees, a tunnel, some rocks, and poop bag stations. There are water fountains in each and also they are very well fenced. There is a place next to the park with big trucks and tractors coming in and out so the noise can be scary for anxious dogs. One other downside is that not everyone picks up their poop, so watch where you step. Wasn't too bad but I saw like three or four that hadn't...
