We have been multiple times and always enjoy it no matter the weather. This trip was specifically so the family could take my 79 year old (she will be 80 next month) grandmother to her first game. The challenge, it's April in Maine, so we got a box for the option to keep her warm.
I should note that she is also wheelchair dependent, so we have a few comments related to accessibility. They do offer convenient handicap parking just outside the gate. Just be cautious of your vehicle windows with pop fly and homerun balls. Hadlock does have an elevator to get you up to the box. There is only one, so leave a little time to wait your turn to use it. With our party of 15 and the furniture in the room, it did make it tight to maneuver around. The door jam does have a metal lip that sticks up which made getting her in or out of the space was not a smooth ride and at one point, she was forced to stand to get the wheelchair over the door jam as it got stuck. That made us all a bit nervous, but we managed without incident.
Please beware of the space available for your loved ones to watch the game. There was only one location that she could be and still see past the countertop. The countertop for us was eye level for her, and we had to watch she didn't hit her head when she was turning around to talk to someone. Also, watch your loved ones' feet. The door that leads out to the stadium slides to the slide, which means your loved one needs to be back far enough from the glass to allow the extra door to slide over and not pinch them. We did get her outside briefly during the 7th to enjoy the atmosphere a bit more. There isn't an actual handicap outdoor seat up there. You kind of have to leave the person in the doorway and ask others to carefully go around. Be sure the chairs breaks are locked as the space is slim and there was no turning maneuvers or anything that could be done.
Overall, a great game. The server was awesome, the food was okay. We ordered burgers and dogs. No topics arrived for thw burgers so it was simply cheese and ketchup. Fries were hot. The little fridge to keep drinks cold was a bonus. Slugger came by for a photo. It was Halloween at Hadlock (in April), and everyone had some...
Read moreHadlock Field is a wonderful minor league ballpark in Portland, Maine. The stadium is home to the Double A Portland Sea Dogs of the Eastern League. Many parts of the stadium, including the left-field “Green Monster” wall are designed to emulate Fenway Park. Capacity for the stadium is 7,368. Most of the seats in the stadium provide good sightlines to the field. Some seats have partially obstructed views or limited vision. These seats include some of those along third base and left-field. Others along the first base line also have limited vision. The seats in right-field behind the homerun wall are fantastic, but some parts of the field can be a little hard to see. In some ways, the quirks of the seats add to the charm of the field and stadium. There are two team merchandise stores in the park. Both are well stocked with team merchandise. Concessions in the park include the standard ballpark foods like hotdogs, popcorn, pizza, and burgers. The Sea Dogs Biscuit, which is two chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream in between is a popular choice here. Portland has many craft breweries and many of the most well known brands are served here as well. The team puts together many entertainment activities between innings. The team has a large video board which is easy to see from around the stadium. When the Sea Dogs hit a home run a lighthouse pops up in center-field and shoots fireworks. Nothing says “Maine” quite like that! Parking may be one of the only negatives with this park. There are spaces around the stadium, but the stadium does not have a dedicated lot. If you’re new to the stadium, arrive early and try to find a lot near the stadium. City parking lots are a good option. There is fun to be had by all here. A Sea Dogs game is entertaining. Read moreGreat game! Sale, from the Red Sox was the starting pitcher, and the Sea Dogs won in one extra inning. I drove to Portland in the pouring rain, but it slowed down just an hour from the original game time as I was parking for $10 in a garage on Forest Street just a short walk away from the ballpark. The friends I was meeting there parked for $10 in an outside lot right across the street from Hadlock, but their timing was perfect. The lot was packed before they crossed the street. Another couple I was meeting who needed disability parking were able to find a spot in the handicapped lot just to the left of the entrance. When we got to our seats the kind man who helped us find them dried them with a towel and continued to do this for all new arrivals. There was a slight sprinkle, but the crew kept preparing the field. The game was delayed by only 45 minutes, but between a blueberry ale, a large pretzel with a little mustard, and good company the time was well spent. Scanning the QR code on my ticket made it so I could order a Sea Dogs cap, the game day special for $15, right from my phone and have it delivered to me at my seat by a polite young man. Once the game had started, we were no longer concerned about the predicted possibility of rain and thunderstorms. The game kept us on the edge of our seats, and the sun was shining brightly by the 4th inning. So, if you're ever bored in Maine you can always feel free to "take me out to...
