We walked into the most amazing collection of antique retro and last century collectibles beyond the wildest imagination, unbeknownst to us as we were looking for a specific piece of furniture for our new farmhouse out in Oregon City. One of those moments where you don't really know the specifics but you kind of sort of want a little table sort of dresser sort of whatever, and this was the perfect place to wander around and be totally amazed and all of the really truly cool things collectible.
From the moment you enter you are amazed at all of the little tabletop collectibles, and just the most amazing setup throughout the building. Little designated nukes represent each person displaying their past and their goodies and each little nook or booth you travel by as a completely different story and a completely different feel. And if you do it right you lose about 2 hours of your life looking around and all of the things that are interesting.
Once you get done with an area there's a whole another area and I found that the garden area held most of the items I was most interested in. There were huge armoires and wardrobes and bedroom setups that were simply breathtaking. Everything is wonderfully displayed and presented. A candy store of antique and retro goodies to feast your eyes on and there is every imaginable concept of design to see. Staff are incredibly kind and warming with their comments asking if you need any help. We were like a couple of deer in the headlights throughout most of our visit. We did come upon a wonderful Butler's tray table. We were in our Jeep so larger items were disqualified because we would have been unable to haul them off just saying.
Located right off of Metro Stark Street couple blocks west off of 82nd. Driven by that area a million times but never thought a wonderful antique store was thriving within the very neighborhood I was driving through. We plan to go back again and most certainly when we're looking to fill a void when we're in Portland we can certainly easily fill an hour of our time with the Monticello antique...
Read moreMe and my husband Got kicked out for no reason because my purse is in the form of a very small backpack. Thinking, I was going to steal something? When I don't steal. I am a high class, paying customer! They physically pushed us both as we were already walking toward the door out! disrespectfully called my husband a liar. They're trying to get away with being bad sales people. If they really want to make money that’s no way to treat customers! They lied about the interaction, didn’t even allow my husband to speak to their manager without being ridiculed laughed at and sided against by other employees! To top it off it was raining and my mother whom was a long time customer here was still inside and they refused to help us get the keys so we could wait for her out of the rain. We stayed respectful and calm the entire time where they did not. This was a traumatizing experience to say the least and I cannot believe this happened I am sure the two that did this are new as I haven’t seen them in the years that we have shopped here! It’s a shame as there are not many antique malls around and they allow people such as this to work for them assaulting physically and verbally their clients… Edit:/ My mother returned to the car and they lost a $70 deal for tye dye for us and they lost some high paying returning local customers! Unless we get confirmation of proper repercussions for those two ladies actions thats where we are at. As well we will be taking actions of our own for the way out of line traumatic actions those two ladies...
Read moreReally nice selection and variety, pretty high quality overall, and a range of price points. I’ve been coming here for years and am generally satisfied with my purchases.
However, there are some issues that really turn me off. First of all, they have several staff following you from booth to booth watching to see if you’re stealing and it is both very uncomfortable and obvious. It creeps me out every time I go there.
Second, there are some misleading items that I can see people thinking are vintage or antique but aren’t. I have a pretty good eye for this. But last time I came in even I was tricked. I am a collector of vintage glass Shiny Brite ornaments and purchased two large ones from a booth with several of them. It turns out they are reproductions made in China. There are only a couple of ways to tell this and due to the packaging which obscured these aspects, plus no indication of age, I missed it.
I opened them at home and called Monticello right away to ask about returning them. The person on the phone said there are no returns and after I explained the situation again they said that they agree with me that I should be able to return them but the policy doesn’t allow it.
They took my name and number to give to the owner to call me back with the caveat that she isn’t very good about returning phone calls so I will probably need to try again. Turns out she never called and it’s just not worth it to try and fight about it, hence...
