Great beers on tap.. Although I asked to leave my card open after ordering a beer and my phone instantly alerted me I was charged $25.00 for the beer. When I asked about this she explained it as if I were paying a deposit to be there and id get my $25.00 back to my card in a couple of days... Maybe put a sign up about this insane policy?!?
Its an incredibly small space like drinking in somebodys living room. If you want privacy this probably isnt the spot for you. I was kinda into this place because it had a patio to escape to you could drink at.. But I'll never go back because of this charging me $25.00 drinking deposit. As well at the beers $5.00 cost.. I cant see dropping $30.00 on a beer.. I dont care of I get $25 in a couple days. I should have been informed of this highly irregular form of card policy before ordering the beer. No other bar does that.. Anywhere!!! I'm still waiting for the funds to be applied back to my card. Not a great policy to have in such a tiny mom and pop establishment. Not to mention this is NOT a destination location for foot traffic or overpriced policies overall. This is 82nd street. Nowhere 82nd street, surrounded by auto dealerships and crime. It's great idea for a taproom...
Read moreI'm thrilled that we read about Covert Cafe on a Montavilla neighborhood site. It's a wonderful addition to SE 82nd. It's always nice to see a smallish menu, which makes me confident that everything offered will be done well, since they presumably gravitate towards their strengths. Based on my first visit, I'm certain this is the case. Red meat is a rare indulgance for me, and steak is even rarer. The Covert version is simple perfection - a slab of perfectly cooked meat, topped with rosemary and butter, accompanied by a terrific salad. My wife went with the cheesesteak, which turned out to be made with chunks of the same sirloin as my entree. Despite us being thrilled with our choices, I'm currently looking forward to returning and trying the pulled pork. Food aside, the decor at Covert is welcoming and comfortable. There's a glass front bookcase full of Star Trek memorabilia, a small stage that hosts a variety of performances and quizzes (check the calendar on the web site), and a TV that was showing a Star Trek TNG episonde, with the sound loud enough that we could have paid attention if we wanted, but there was also music playing through the same speaker, all in all forming a pleasant...
Read moreIt’s so rare to walk into someone’s honest dream and see and taste that purity and truth. Covert Café is one of those rare places that just exudes the authenticity and love of its owner.
After a long day of yard sailing, I cast about in the barbaric plains seeking something simple and easy. I’m old and I’m tired and I just want a little safety and a little good food and I absolutely luck out and end up here… and Joe couldn’t be more welcoming, and the spicy BBQ burger was perfect, and I felt like an honored guest.
Covert Café is as eclectic as I am, and that my friends is a true accomplishment and when you look around, it just hums with promise. There are instruments and microphones and outdoor seating, and I’ll bet a lot goes on here when the sun goes go down.
And Joe is great! Friendly and fun and interesting and you can see why he’s doing this. You can see the fire in his heart for this little corner of the world. This corner that absolutely deserves to be a magic In place. The famous spot that you bring your out of town friends to, intimate, fun, relaxed. If I lived over here, It would be my home away from home. They get so sick of me they’d have to take out a...
