I grew up playing in this park when I was younger. I thought it was the coolest thing to be able to explore a volcano. Well, I guess technically, it is a Cinder Cone. It is a part of a network of Cinder Cone vents throughout the city, such as Powell Butte, Rocky Butte, and Kelly Butte. When we came to visit my grandmother, she was three houses down from the edge of the park, which made it convenient. When we were here, almost every waking hour was spent exploring this beautiful piece of history. It was like an enchanted forest. Portland has some of the most amazingly beautiful plants due to the fact they get a lot of precipitation. My grandmother had the most Gorgeous 😍 Roses, Rhododendrons, and Lucifer Crocosmia I have ever seen. They were kind of her passion. The soapbox derby was always fun to watch, and the natural slope of the terrain made it easy to pick up some speed as they raced down the hill. Portland has a distinct honor of being one of only a few cities in the US to have a volcano within its boundaries. The photo ops in this park are amazing as it sites naturally above the elevation of the rest of the city and surrounding areas. There are numerous trails throughout the park, and with everything that you see and every corner you come around, sometimes it's easy to forget how steep the terrain can be. Be forewarned, the park also has the distinction of the most extensive stairway system in the city. As always, leave it better than you found it and enjoy 😉.

I have to say I really liked this place. There are a lot of different trails and offshoots to explore various facets of the park. You can take it easy or go for a harder workout -- your choice. There are some beautiful views, there's a playground for younger kids, and there are even plenty of paved paths for more cautious runners.

Lovely park to stroll, run or play in. There is a playground for kids and lots of paths to roam around on. The water in the retention ponds is very pretty. Great place for a picnic- plenty of shade.

Gates never opened. Wanted to drive through. Signs all said gates are closed from 10pm to 5am. However, i was not there during those hours, and the gates were still closed. I get things change, but you'd think they'd update the info on the signs...
