We were disappointed, despite the very nice staff. Neither of us eat wheat, ordered two bowls - Ronan, Love - and 4 tacos - 2 vegan Bear Hug, 2 carne asada. Overpriced, bland, greasy food.
The two bowls were very bland, and almost a mushy texture as the quinoa was overcooked, avocado wasn't ripe, very little scrambled egg, there was no Jack cheese on the Ronan Bowl. Not worth the $7-8 charged per bowl. Hard pass, on both bowls.
I couldn't see segregation for vegan product preparation in their cart.
Then there were the carne asada tacos. Nice flavor of the meat and pico, according to my companion. IMHO street tacos need to be consumed pretty quickly - this cart is located in a pretty nasty location, a parking lot of a low-rent apartment building, next to 122nd Ave so next to several hundred cars an hour passing by. The two tacos were swimming in oil, the entire bottom of the container was covered in a layer of whatever oil used to cook the meat, the second taco's tortilla disintegrated before it was consumed. My second vegan taco tortilla gave way about halfway in. Maybe a second tortilla would help here? Anyway, do take up the suggestion of napkins. Neither of these tacos are worth $2 each, let alone the $3.50-$4 the cart charges. There's much better street tacos to be had anywhere and everywhere else in the Portland area.
Not returning. Very nice people in the cart,...
Read moreEDITED 10/21/25: the brick and mortar spot is now open! We went for the first time a few days ago after they had been open for about four (4) days. They are getting dialed in to the space, which is done up in dark, rich colors and feels so cozy. We are thrilled to have them within walking distance. They have transformed this neighborhood landmark building back into a vibrant community hub. The Latte de Canela and La Osita breakfast burrito (my partner, with whom I shared the burrito, was especially appreciative of the care taken with the thoughtful size and distribution of ingredients to maximize perfect bites) were as nourishing and delightful as I remembered. Definitely worth a visit. And then repeat visits!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: This unassuming little black food cart generates an incredibly delicious breakfast burrito. Large enough to share, though next time I might keep the Osita Burrito all to myself. I also got a Latte de Canella that was well brewed and cinnamony enough to help herald autumn. Forget PSLs this is my new cooler weather coffee jam! Full disclosure: I came to check out La Osita because they are building out a brick and mortar spot in my neighborhood. This is exactly what Montavilla needs and I am so excited to be able to walk over for some nourishing, well...
Read moreDang, I was hoping to give them a solid 5.0, but the atmosphere isn’t 5 stars. It’s a single black food cart in a nondescript parking lot off of Mill and 122nd. Easy to miss, but worth turning around if you accidentally go past it. There is one picnic table tucked under a pine tree, so I wouldn’t consider eating there necessarily a good option, but the library (benches and tables outside) and a few park nearby parks if you want to eat alfresco. We had the Osito Burrito and the Steak Burrito, both with flavorful fresh ingredients. I didn’t want dairy, but they offered avocado instead which I appreciated. We had the French press coffee, which was excellent (some grounds slipped in, but it wasn’t a deal breaker for us). It’s not instant food, it was a but of a wait, but worth it. They’re were very nice, helpful, and the prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back and from what we heard from the other people in line was that everything on the menu is equally delicious, that you...
