Although this a popular trail head you can venture off a tad and take a more secluded route by taking the "horse" trail to the right immediately upon getting out of your car. We like this path because you get less bike traffic and more shade. We found a ton of Mushrooms just off the trail to identify. The kids enjoyed seeing the graffiti on the man hole covers. I was disappointed that there were no geocaches for us to hunt for but it was a nice relaxing walk. Beware of the lack of restrooms. We had to cut our day short due to drinking too...
Read moreI walked 8 miles Westbound on Silver Comet Trail from this trailhead with my wife and dog. The trail is pretty open and there was even some wildlife to be seen (Deer, Snake, and Turtle). This section of the trail has good shade so walking mid-day isn't too bad. Most cyclist were courteous when passing, but some whizzed by and few almost hit us either passing to close or cutting in front of us too soon.
