Porter Park is a place of a lot of activity throughout the school-year. Little league teams around the area use the fields for baseball, softball and soccer practices. Teams need to reserve these fields with city.
The playground recently went through a remodel. There are now natural playground equipment. This includes logs and tree stumps that children can use for balancing. Children just need to be careful because it's very easy to get injury by slipping off the stumps.
Shelters in the park make picnicing possible. Some even have built in grills.
