As a Protestant, I’ve recently felt a calling to pray the rosary. I even purchased one and wanted to have it blessed, so while in Providence for business, I reached out to the Church of the Holy Ghost. I first called on a Friday, asking if a priest would be available the next day. Their answering service took my message and promised a call back. No one ever returned the call.
On Saturday, while within walking distance of the church, I called again. Same result—my information was taken, but I received no follow-up. It is now Monday, and I have still not heard back from anyone.
For someone outside the Catholic tradition reaching out in good faith, it was disheartening to be ignored entirely. If the Church prides itself on “serving the community,” responsiveness should be a basic part of that. Unfortunately, my experience left me unimpressed and...
