Absolutely amazing cakes, questionable customer service.
For Father's Day my wife and I went to grab a chocolate cake, asked one of the women at the cake case for the differences between the chocolate cakes and settled on the chocolate layered mouse cake versus the other chocolate cake as she described it as "cookie crumble" and that's not something I enjoy. Starting off quick and courteous customer service.
We got home and discovered we received the cake we had not been interested in. I called, explained the situation and asked if I could return the cake for the correct one, the gentleman I spoke to said a return could not happen (Covid) but he's set aside the correct cake I should have recieved and I could just come by and grab it (we are ~1.5 miles away). My sister offers to go get it.
My sister ends up calling me 15 minutes exasperated because the woman at the shop she is speaking to is telling her they are not at fault, that there is mouse in the cake so it's the right one and they sold out of the cake they expressly said they were setting aside for me. Why none of this discussion could have occurred without my sister having to drive to the store is beyond me.
Overall it's fine, it's just cake (I'll skip a slice this year because it'll just taste off given the situation) but the way my sister was treated, as if we were trying to score a free cake or scam them was embarrassing and a great example of how an otherwise solid business can still suffer from poor customer service.
I'll definitely be back because this is consistently where my family goes for cakes (my first time but easily the 10th time for my family in 2021) I'll just be more attentive to what they are doing as it appears ultimately it becomes the customers responsibility. In the future showing the cake to the customer before closing it would likely solve a problem like this or having a point of contact in the store that makes executive decisions on returns so you do not needlessly embarrass your customers (nor waste...
Read moreThis is one of the best areas to grab some dessert around the block from Atwells Ave (Main St of Federal Hill). It's a small place but they have some decadent desserts! I will mention that prices are on the higher end though. Typically, I come in and choose my desserts to go. However, more recently we dined in. There was about a 15 minute wait on a Sunday and you must wait outside until your name is called. The place is too small to have anyone lingering around to be seated. We have had the fruit tart and banana cream pie in the past which are good. This time around, they ran out of the fruit tart. The banana cream pie has slices of banana in it which is nice. We ordered some cappuccinos which were nicely presented to us. I had the "special" recently which was chocolate cream pie which was delicious and quite rich. My husband and I had the cannoli - which was okay (we are cannoli snobs). My husband had the pecan tart which he enjoyed! If there was an option to add ice cream on the side - he would love it more! My father-in-law had the chocolate mousse which is delicious as well!! Most of the selections at this place are delicious! Dining there was nice if you want to hang out and service is quick once you're in. However, I probably would continue to take dessert to go as...
Read moreThe place is small and it can get crowded fast, but that doesn't give the right for the personnel to be rude. The guy taking names for the tables was flat out rude and condescending, no people skills at all. From the get go he just started yelling at us, "HOW MANY? 20min", not even a "hi welcome to... can I take your name..." We were waiting with 2 other groups for a table when he just started barking orders for everyone to go wait outside. That's when one of the other groups just decided to go to another establishment. The lady next to me even made the comment that she felt like she was being scolded for just trying to have a coffee. I wasn't happy with the way he was treating us, so we decided to leave as well. Don't get me wrong the coffee and pastries are heavenly, we buy their cakes for nearly all of my family members birthdays, but lately the service has gone downhill. I guess they figured that people will just keep going to eat there anyways, so there is no need to have manners anymore. I will really think twice before going there to have coffee with the family or with friends. Maybe next time I will just do take out, maybe we don't get yelled...
