Playa Bastimento — Attraction in Puerto Rico

We heard that the beaches on the other side of the island were covered in seaweed, so we decided to walk to Bastimento to check it out. The walk is about 30 minutes from town. Walking allowed us to see more of Vieques, but the beach wasn't worth it. It was dirty and full of trash. Rocky and impossible to swim in with coarse sand. This is a great Little beach for small children. It has a rock outcropping that protects a tide pool from the ocean. The tide pool is probably 3 feet deep at the deepest point and is super calm. Two young families played in the entire time we sat on the beach and watched the waves. It is a bit rocky to swim in beyond the rock, but if you get out there with a snorkel, you’ll be able to see...

Its a beautiful beach with stunning views, some nice palm trees for shade, and a cool rock barrier that creates a warm and shallow pool. BUT (!!!) be careful. I accidentally man-handled a sea urchin while snorkeling beyond the rock barrier (totally my fault) and it took me a week to recover from the sting. If you are going snorkeling, make sure and bring tweezers and a pocket knife...
