Redondo Beach's dog park is awesome. Just off of 190th street, there is plenty of parking in 2 lots and street spots. All free! There is also 2 baseball fields, kids jungle gym area and public restrooms. The lot near the restrooms are generally for baseball and many homeless people park there. They are friendly, use the bathroom for cleaning up. But I notice they do this off hours. Plus they insure hand soap is available when the parks supply is empty.
The dog parks, yes 2, one for big dogs and the other for small or timid dogs are mostly dirt. But the dogs that come here are well taken care of, clean, groomed, combed. No questionable dogs seen during evening time.
Some greenery and trees in both parks. The parks connect for switching sides at 2 points. Leash holders at entrance. Benches. Water areas with bowls. Some shade. Often much cooler and windier in this area, feels great on summer evenings. But days when I am wearing a tank and could through the night, I still wear a thin jacket here.
The dogs and owners are generally very nice. People from all sorts of backgrounds that are fun to get to know. All ages of adults well represented here. Some regulars that are the friendliest people.
You are expected to clean up after yourself, shovels avail or BYOB- bring your own bag. If you or your dog are acting out if line, people will eventually separate you from the park. Civility works well here.
Toys don't make it from one day to the next. Bring a toy if your dog likes one. Take it with you if you want to see it again. Except tennis balls. There's plenty, but ones with squeakers are scarce and sacred.
Hours are morning to evening. Generally the crowd leaves when the sun is down. It has a hill next to it on 2 west and northwest sides, gets darker a little sooner because of...
Read moreOverall, the park is huge. Plenty of space for your dogs to run. You'll likely have to give your dog a bath each time after visiting. My dog is likely worse than some when getting dirty. She has a tendency to lay in the water (area for the dogs to drink water) and then wrestle in the sand. The small dog side has less sand. I might be some form of compacted dirt/sand. Not too sure but the ground looks different. I wish it was grass but that would be almost impossible to grow with those large dogs constantly running on it.
Most the owners are good at removing their dogs if it becomes too aggressive with the others. Often the dogs show more aggression when they first enter the park. Then you'll notice they become more at ease once they become familiar with the other dogs.
Occassionally, you will encounter an angry dog owner who insists on arguing with other owners over their dog(s). You must realize dogs often play rough and sometimes this type of environment might be too much for your dog or you. Have patience and give time for your dog to adjust. You'll be grateful coming here because your dog will sleep peacefully when...
Read moreDefinitely one of the better dog parks I've been to recently. Very spacious for medium to large dogs to play. There is a lot of sand but more grass towards the back where the obstacle course is. Water fountains and bowls and benches to sit. Try to come during slow hours or earlier in the day if you want a more chill time. After work hours are the busiest.
The only downside is there are people who will bring their small scared dogs on the big dog side and constantly pick them up because they are more afraid than their dog is. Which in turn makes dogs want to jump for the small ones. If you or your small dog can't handle the curiosity of the larger dogs then take your butt to the small dog side lol.
There can be 1 aggressive dog from time to time but nothing that can't be handled especially if you are an experienced dog owner. Unfortunately just like every dog park there will be 1 or 2 owners that play dumb (or they might just be dumb) and ignore when their dog starts to get aggressive. Just step in and move your dog to another area so things...
