I just moved to Reno and the complex I moved in to does not have a recycling center so I called WM to see which center was closest that takes cardboard. The operator I spoke with said that it was on Commercial Row and gave me the hours of operation. Of course the recycling center is only open from 8-4:30 during the week (I work 7:30-5) and the transfer station is open from 7:00 - 5:00. I got up early so that I could drop the cardboard off before work (keep in mind I live in South Reno and the station is in north Reno). I got to what I thought was the transfer station and no one was there. I called to complain and was told the recycling station is the one located on the corner of Sutro and Commercial. The transfer station that opens at 7:00 is the opposite direction on Commercial. Now, why didn't the operator I spoke with yesterday feel the importance to tell me there were two stations. She gave me the address and that was it. I am just trying to do the right thing but at this point I am really fed up and tempted to just throw it in the garbage just to free up...
Read moreIn looking at some of the other reviews it appears that there is confusion between the recycling center and the waste transfer station, both owned by Waste Management and both on Commercial Row. However, they are separate facilities with different addresses (Sutro Street runs between them) and function differently.
The recycling center is open to the public- you drive through the gate, find the appropriate bay or dumpster that is clearly labeled by materials (example- cardboard), pull up to it, unload your vehicle and leave. All materials I’ve needed to drop off have been outdoors and the only employee interactions I’ve ever had was a friendly wave.
My only advice would be to check the hours they are open before heading there. The hours and days are more limited than the transfer station, they seem to observe more holidays and I’ve found the gate closed a few minutes early a couple times.
It is easy, fast, and very straight forward to use. Short of a red carpet and vehicle attendants to unload and then wash your car, I’m not sure how it could operate...
Read moreWarning! Do not sign up for paperless billing unless you frequently log in. We had issues I was unaware of with our recycling as we are new home owners and I did not see the notifications until I logged in to update my billing information. I was in contact with 5-6 different customer service representatives to resolve the issue and was willing to pay any fees as I care to keep recycling (hence paperless billing) but absolutely no one was willing to help work with me or fix the problem and instead was punished by recycling being taken away. I think if someone reaches out that much to try and fix their mistakes you would take that as a good sign and try to work with their customers. After the sixth call to them they told me they would give me a call back but no one ever contacted us back. So I gave up and guess we now do not get recycling services for a year when I was willing to do anything to make things right. Incredibly poor customer service...
