I REQUESTED MY MONEY BACK !!..Let me begin with the positives. The website was simple to access in regards to booking an event and having a representative call you back to obtain your information. I received a pleasant, up beat phone call from Brianna within 48 hours of completing the online form and I felt excited about the event! During the call, she confirmed with her supervisor that my kids invitations, ect would be ready the following week... Fast forward to Monday, I arrive at the event center at 11:30am. I report to the supervisor over kids birthday events and ..nothing is ready. No contract, no birthday invites and than I was told I had to pay a 20% service charge... She has several excuses why my items weren't completed , but I didn't complain, nor did I complain about the service charge, I just wish it was communicated to me....I say no worries and informed her I would return around 6:30pm ,that same day ,to pick up everything and pay. Well, I returned at 6:30pm, my invites are ready, but contract has several errors on it including price and I requested her to retype it before I signed. Now everything is done and I pull out my card to pay.... She informs me that the event center is NOT equipped at the moment to take any type of card payments and it must be cash or check!! 😒 First of all, if you knew you weren’t equipped to take card payment(s) at the moment, simply inform your customer(s) of the delemma prior to their arrival....Secondly...An EVENT CENTER opened and not ready to take card payments?! It’s 2018🙄.....So,now, I have to return a third time 😡.... I show up at 9:45am on Tuesday and was told by the front desk that EVERYONE is in a meeting and the receptionist informed me she is unable to get in touch with anyone and she has requested other customers who’ve stopped by to come back..... wait, what?! 😧 I’ve been to high corporate meeting and even witnessed staff meetings at Target and they’ve always make sure there was coverage for their customers.... I kindly informed her this is my third time here and I just need to pay for my kids party.. she explains she is uncomfortable to take my money...10 mins later, by coincidence, a staff member walks by. I informed him of what I was attempting to do, he goes upstairs and inform the staff member in charge of kids birthdays that I am waiting downstairs... 10-15mins pass by, she comes downstairs and explains to me her general manager would NOT allow her to exit the meeting to handle her customer...That sucks, it’s clear I’m not valued as a customer...This review is in no way to bash the event center. I believe in the event center that’s why I’m choosing to support them vs chuckee cheese, Marble museum ect... but it’s apparent we need to be reminded that our customers come first. I understand the Event center is new, but the people hired and put in manager positions, should have had prior training in customer services /business. I support you Event Center and your staff that’s why I’m choosing to still have my kids birthday party there. But please get the basics together....It’s especially frustrating when I’m charged a 20% serviced charged on a $250 birthday party when this is my experience. I’ll update everyone in the outcome of the party...
UPDATE: I REQUESTED MY MONEY BACK! They ran out of food, so the parents of the kids had to go purchase food at concession stand. It took so long for the cooks to prepare food, my kids grandparents missed singing happy birthday. Per package I purchased, my birthday boys were to receive birthday shirts. Shirts never came in. Per package, I was supposed to have a birthday party host. to help gather kids together, ect. Never had one. I had to run around getting kids and showing parents where to go.
Kids were falling and harming themselves in the play area. Play area requires no shoes, but floors are slippery.
It’s clear, there is NOT a TEAM in place to help with birthday tasks. I...
Read moreTonight was my first experience with the Event Center and I must say I’m highly disappointed. The Event was the Alumni Party. The facilities were clean, nicely decorated, and food was decent however things quickly went left following a power outage of the dj’s equipment. The party was without music for about 45min. The host of the party became upset and expressed his frustrations on stage. At that time, he expressed that he had been having a hard time with a female employee and felt the the “power outage” had been deliberate sabotage. The female EVENT CENTER EMPLOYEE then decided to throw an adult tantrum and signaled the power to be PERMANENTLY SHUT OFF AND THAT PARTY WAS OVER. Mind you ticket sells for this party were $60+ and was shut down, not at the fault of patrons or breech of contract but due to the UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE OF THIS FEMALE EMPLOYEE. I wish I knew the name of this employee so that I could include it in this review because she is definitely not deserving of her position with the company if she cannot 1. Take criticism 2. Remain professional at all times 3. Leave her nasty attitude at the house, in the parking lot or wherever she needs to, to keep her from bringing it into the workplace. I really believe in the Rocky Mount Event Center and want to see it succeed but I advise upper management to re-evaluated their employees before their attitudes run off potential patrons and...
Read moreVery pleasantly surprised by this facility. I didn't know there was anything new in Rocky Mount. We were there for the inaugural event, a volleyball tournament. This is a great space for volleyball, and I believe it will be for basketball as well. There was a surface parking lot charging $5 per day behind the facility, but it was small and filled early. There is more surface parking around the town and the facility, so finding space was not a problem.
Pluses include well-lit accessible courts, with bleacher-style seating, a very nice observation deck over two sides of the Courts, on-site concessions, and a play area for little kids. There is a nice upstairs mezzanine area that had some space for kids to hang out between games, but it was limited.
Things they could do a little bit better - there is no comfortable seating outside in the lobby areas, so between games, teams are just sitting in groups on the floor. The concession food had some good and bad choices, but typical hamburger, hot dog, Pizza type food. Some appetizing healthier choices would be good. At the changeover between morning and afternoon waves, Kraut send a pile up in the lanes between the courts, restricting movement a bit.
Overall, these are minor complaints. This is a great facility that made a great...
