This is rightfully known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! It has absolutely amazing views, perfect white sands, and beautiful blue waters. With a small rocky cay only about 200 feet off the beach, the snorkeling is amazing with tons of aquatic life. We even saw a 3-foot ray hovering around the sandy wading area in 2 feet of water. The underwater snorkel trail around the cay is a nice little feature which provides information about the habitat and aquatic life.
It gets crowded after 11am, so getting there early is a good idea to if you need to get parking and a good spot on the beach. Parking is ridiculously limited. But there’s plenty of space on the beach despite it being relatively narrow. The scene is pretty laid back with lots of families. There were no crazy party animals when we were there fortunately.
Parking is indeed a challenge. We took an 11am ferry from Red Hook, and by the time we got there, all the parking was taken. There are probably only about 20 spots in the lot. We ended up parking up the hill in the side of the road about a quarter mile away. Not ideal, but worth the hike!
They have a real nice snack shack for drinks (beer, cocktails, sodas, teas, water, etc.), gifts, and pub grub (burgers, sandwiches, snacks, etc.). They also have large and very well maintained restroom and shower facilities. You can rinse the sand off yourself, and they have places to clean your snorkel gear. They also rent snorkel gear if you don’t have your own.
This was our third time coming back to Trunk Bay. The next time we come back to the islands, it will definitely be on our list of...
Read moreParadise om Earth ? You found it !Trunk Bay is nothing short of majestic beauty. The moment you arrive, you are greeted with crystal-clear turquoise waters that look like they’ve been painted by hand, and the softest, finest white sand that feels like silk under your feet. This is truly one of the most breathtaking beaches in the Caribbean — perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply soaking in paradise.
We spent hours enjoying the pristine water and the postcard-worthy scenery. The panoramic views, whether from the shore or looking out at the lush green island just offshore, are unforgettable. It’s the kind of place that makes you wish time could stop.
A couple of practical notes for future visitors:
Transportation: If you’re coming by cruise ship into Cruz Bay, taxis are the main way to reach Trunk Bay. While they’re efficient, the drivers can sometimes be a bit abrupt or even rude. One important thing to remember: they will not wait for you if you are not back at the vehicle at the exact time they say. Plan your beach time carefully to avoid being stranded.
Food & drinks: There is only one food shack on the beach. While convenient, the prices are quite high compared to what you’d expect. Definitely bring extra cash (not all places take cards) and, if possible, pack a few snacks and water beforehand.
Even with these small inconveniences, Trunk Bay is absolutely worth the trip. It is a slice of paradise that combines natural beauty, tranquility, and the magic of the Caribbean. If you’re visiting St. John, don’t miss it — this is one of those places that stays with...
Read moreTrunk Bay There’s a reason this gets called the #1 beach in the world. The sand is powder soft, the water an unreal blue, and the services surrounding the beach (food, drinks, rentals) make for a truly great day trip. The snorkeling was OK but just OK when we were there; the reef looks like it’s still recovering from storms. But decent amount of fish, going down the left side of Trunk Cay (facing the water) is the snorkel trail, water’s a little rougher on the right side but still doable. There’s stuff to see on both sides. Believe it or not the highlight of the day was the tuna bites from the food shack; we ate at most of the good restaurants on St; John the week we were there, and we all agreed that tuna was the best thing we ate the whole time! Not sure how they do it but they are awesome. The drinks are top-notch, probably the best painkiller I had on the island as well. The one drawback to Trunk Bay is parking, which can be downright chaotic. So get there early. We arrived at 9am and the lot was already full. There’s a little bit of road parking, but be very careful you don’t park where others can block you in – because they will. Also don’t park where they say not to –Park Service actually had a boat come by during the afternoon announcing that anyone parked in a no parking zone...
