December, 2023 ~ We really enjoyed our stay at Gulfport Municipal Marina. This is our 2nd stay at GMM. The staff was helpful. Thanks TEZ for all your help!
GMM is located close to a great town with many shops, restaurants, pubs, and a beach. There are many events in town to enjoy. It is also very close to the Pinella’s Bike/Hike Trail, just a short bike ride to downtown St. Pete.
Suggestions: Our first stay, we were lucky enough to stay on the floating dock which is within the marina’s gated area. This time we stayed at a long finger dock, which was gated, but the gate was at the end. We had to leave the fenced-in area every time we left the dock. Now this may not seem like an issue, however, we only had one fob. This means: -we always had to have the fob with us to go anywhere (bathroom, shower, laundry, office, etc.) -you needed the fob to get out! This was ridiculous. We both had to be together to let each other in/out of the dock or bathroom area. VERY frustrating. -the gates are on too tight of a spring, closing on your back if you are trying to get something off the dock. -when we left, we had to walk our fob back, then a staff member had to walk us back to open the gate for us to walk on our dock - you need a drop off box -we did not like the fact that we had to “leave” the marina to go to the bathroom, etc. The fence needs to be a couple feet further so ALL docks are within the gated area
Now, all this does not mean we will not stay again. We really LIKE GMM! We plan to come again. It is a safe and clean marina. Unfortunately the best dock (the floating one which is close to office area and within fenced area) is used for bigger boats (ours is a 36)
Hopefully these suggestions will be considered and modified in the...
Read moreWent to the city marina to rent a mooring ball and was told only livaboards can rent mooring balls . And since I live in a house i was discriminated against . I AM CALLING LAWERS ON MONDAY . I have had my boat for 16 years , it has crossed the Atlantic 3 times . I work on boats and marinas and have never been treated this way . The punk kid in the dockmaster office was unhelpful and ignorant and uncaring even though I drove an hour each way to go there because they never mentioned this ridiculous and un constitutional and unlawful rule they impose on the public . The land may belong to Gulfport but the water doesn't. The city was given the right to put mooring balls to charge people for a safe mooring in that bay . And now they discriminate the public as if they own the water . Every marina around is full and these Despots are now refusing safe moorings in hurricane season . Gulfport looks like a fun little town but the local government is horrible and it shows . STAY AWAY...
Read moreWe stayed aboard one week at the marina, a couple days in a slip (fixed dock) then moved over to to the transient floating dock. We were welcomed from driving in to launch our boat to our exit, filling up on gas & water enroute to explore Tampa Bay. All facilities were clean and cared for, used the showers, laundry and the boaters lounge upstairs. There are separate showers for daytrippers vs staying in the marina, those upstairs are modernized and prettier, but all had hot, adjustable water w good showerheads (just need soap dishes). The gates are open in the daytime but locked at night, we felt very safe. Easy walk over to the main Gulfport business district with great restaurants (especially O'Maddys), beautiful seafront with dinghy dock. The marina mooring balls are off there, would have loved to use them, but no powerboats allowed. Loved all the bird life in the marina, visited by a dolphin, herons & egrets, best marina we have...
