Very relaxing, clean, not over crowded. Safe for both walkers and bikers. Great trail, at the river there is a to either go under the Rt 1 Newburyport bridge or cross it. Even the under bridge trail really nice, with a good river view. At the end of that underpass you can go into The Deck restaurant and see a band.
The trail doesn't really continue after that.
Going over the bridge takes you to the Newburyport rail trail, there are two lanes on the bridge but cars are only allowed in the far away lane and not the lane between so the walking / bike lane is far away safely off to the side.
At the far end you end up in Seabrook, NH at the Bingo Hall on 286. I don't know if they mind, but there's a huge parking lot there.
In the middle is a connector to the Ghost Trail...

We were halfway between Rts. 95 and U.S. 1 and had to turn around. I highly recommend leaving your vehicle on the Salisbury side of the Merrimack River, on the west side of Rt. 1 at the foot of the bridge. Free parking. The landscape is more interesting. The marsh and rivers remind me of Cape Cod scenes. It’s a beautiful trail and will...
Read moreThis is a place for the casual walker, cyclist, person who enjoys fresh air. The trail is paved and well kept, but does tend to receive a lot of traffic on the nicer days. If you’re adventurous, there’s a side trail you can pop off into the woods, and if you’re like me and prefer not to be around people, go when it looks like it’s about to rain which usually keeps the population down.
Plenty of parking and it provides dog bags for those of you who bring...
